Can anyone offer any advice as to what rent our DD should be expecting to pay when she moves out of halls and into a shared flat, with or without bills? She wants to move with friends to Marchmont for her second year, and we have no clue what is a reasonable rent!

Mine pays £410 plus bills for a room in central Edinburgh in a flat of 5. Internet is £7 each per month, not sure about electric. it is a huge room.

Mine pays £420 a month. Bills on top 3 of them sharing. She's quite central.

In most university cities, it will depend somewhat on the quality of the accommodation. Pleasant flats cost more and location is always a price driver. Have a look at the flats available on the agent's' web sites or ask the university accommodations office for advice. When do they need to start looking? Shortage of accommodation in some university cities is causing problems! (Angst on other threads).
