Yikes, that's a lot of money Quietly Shock

London is soooo expensive. Sad

circular · 20/01/2016 19:34

That's so expensive Quietly

I think DD's rent will work out to £85pw plus bills. Not London or North.
Walking distance to campus, so at least no daily travel costs.

Also been quite good with her money so far, and worked during holidays.

DS's houses share from July will be £72.50 NOT including bills. He will be two mins away from campus as opposed to a 30 minute walk away now or two metro stops away - an all day ticket is less than £3, if it is raining heavy they get the metro. I have told him he needs to get some sort of job even if it is only between now and when he finishes to save up for the bit between July and when the maintenance grant starts again as we will be paying for everything otherwise.

hellsbells99 · 21/01/2016 12:14

quiety sorry to hear about your DD2's illness. That must be hard work for you. I am sure she must miss your DD1 being away as well. I know my DD2 does.

Needmoresleep · 21/01/2016 15:34

Quietly, DS is paying £170 a week for a shared Zone 1 flat, though with bills on top. It means though that he saves both time and money from not having to commute, plus it is easy to join in with everything, so I think it is worth it, and they do a lot of cooking together. Friends in another flat are saving money by sharing rooms, something we used to have to do in halls when I was a student. Perhaps part of it is that expectations have increased. My hall used to have triple and one quadrupal rooms.

Isthiscorrect · 21/01/2016 17:48

Ds is also in London in Zone 1. It saves him a fortune (thankfully) as he walks everywhere 12-15 Km's a day! He we are paying £200 pw inclusive of all bills, inclu Internet, Netflix, Sky etc, heating blah blah and a cleaner once a week for communal areas. It is expensive but he is studying in the best possible place for his course and his future. He has had an unpaid job for almost a year, we would love for it to be paid but the opportunities and doors opened have been worth it. (I hope).

GypsyFl0ss · 24/01/2016 17:31

DD will be paying we will be paying 109 a week including bills in Durham. Still within walking distance of most lectures and town.

Horsemad · 24/01/2016 18:05

DS has applied to halls again. He'll find out in Feb if he's been successful.

mumslife sending hugs for you and your DD - sounds so stressful for you both. Hopefully your DD will be able to move forward and enjoy her time at uni. My DD was getting friendly with a girl on her course and in her halls but realised she was a BITCH! So thsts been knocked on the head!

DS has secured a share for next year @£90 per week . nice area close to uni so no bus fares. Northern uni town

Horsemad · 26/01/2016 19:44

That sounds good Carriemac. Sorry to hear about your DD's boyfriend troubles mumslife Sad A busy term will definitely help keep her occupied.

Just thinking back to a year ago and how wrapped up in offers we all were. We (and our DC) have come a long way since then! Smile

Quietlygoingmad67 · 26/01/2016 20:04

horsemad wow it has been a year hasn't if since offers - makes me realise how much my DD has achieved! She has finally had her 1st appointment with her specialist dyslexia tutor (DSA) and she is so impressed - already helping! Smile

Decorhate · 26/01/2016 21:29

Hi Carrie. My dd will be paying the same. Not sure what the area is like, not too far from current halls. It's going to be so much cheaper next year (I hope). How is your ds finding the course?

Carriemac · 27/01/2016 21:47

he is loving it . playing medics rugby, partying hard, seems to be doing really well. after the tough year he had health wise last year am feeling so happy for him. is your Dd enjoying it?

Decorhate · 28/01/2016 05:58

That's great to hear Carrie. Has his hair started growing back yet? Yes dd loves the place (especially the nightlife!). She doesn't seem to be doing much extra-curricular stuff. And not finding the course too hard so far.

Carriemac · 28/01/2016 07:15

No hair at all, no eyebrows or eyelashes, no nasal hair so he struggles with sore eyes and a constant nasal drip. He has really come to terms with it though.
Is your DD sharing with medics next year? ds has decided not to.
Workload seems manageable, and a good mix of science and 'ideals'

Decorhate · 28/01/2016 17:13

Dd is staying with a mix of people next year, one other medic & two doing other subjects, all people staying in her part of the halls. I expect once the non-medics have graduated it will be medics-only houses!
