mossagate but they're having fun!!
I've never heard dd so happy.
She doesn't drink much and luckily the girls on her floor are similar. After one drink in the bar on Sunday they came back for tea and biscuits.

Quietlygoingmad67 · 22/09/2015 21:15

gammon just brilliant ????

Haffdonga · 22/09/2015 21:16

Hahaha! Grin Gammon

(Not laughing at your dh - laughing with you all, of course)

PUGaLUGS · 22/09/2015 21:16

Gammon DD is the spit of DH! What a great photo.

emsiewill · 22/09/2015 22:18

Had a text from dd this evening asking if I thought her chicken would be defrosted after 15 hours. Wasn't really sure what to advise but said to put a knife in it & if it felt icy it wasn't defrosted... No further communication. Confused

GammonAndEgg · 22/09/2015 22:46

Pug he's her step dad. Don't start a rumour! Grin

Quietlygoingmad67 · 22/09/2015 22:51

Mumslife - DD's boyfriend has also just started uni but is only an hour away on the train, hence she is planning to visit him on Friday night and be back for another freshers event on Saturday! It is hard for them though isn't it? I'm sure by Christmas, things will look different. And also, one the work starts piling up!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 22/09/2015 23:20

An update for those who commented on my DD's experience with the drug users.

She texted to tell me that after a couple of days she is beginning to suspect they are mostly not as hardcore and "crrraaazzyyyy" as they tried to make out. Try hard Oregon from Fresh Meat was mentioned.

I am very relieved and rather pleased she did not feel the need to join in to impress anyone.

Leeds2 · 22/09/2015 23:25

Lovely photo Gammon!
DD's friend is just starting the 2nd year of your DD's course - she has had a great time so far.

NorksAreMessy · 23/09/2015 07:54

DS just showing a teeny tiny bit of homesickness.
He is not a mad party animal, and although he likes a drink, I think he is a bit exhausted with the constant partying. He says he is looking forward to starting work(!) and he is missing the company of nerds.
He has, however, found a very lovely girl to watch BakeOff with tonight (as I say, he is NOT a mad party animal) and he likes all the people in his flat, even if he does not always want to go out with them.

I hope this is a temporary thing, the homesickness, and he will feel better when he actually has some structure.

circular · 23/09/2015 08:44

Lol Gammon and PUG

That's great Tinkly

Hope the protesting goes well Mumslife. Manchester a bit of a trek though lol.

hellsbells99 · 23/09/2015 09:40

mumslife she will probably end up either in the shops or in the clubs!

hellsbells99 · 23/09/2015 09:43

Tinkly drugs is the one thing that scares me. DD has already been told she cannot get involved with drugs at all as otherwise her future career is down the pan I hope she remembers this at all times

AugustRose · 23/09/2015 10:00

Mumslife Is she going for the People's Assembly protest at the Conservative Party Conference? DS is already in Manchester and will be attending too, I'm all for it myself Grin

FannyFanakapan · 23/09/2015 10:20

DD seems more settled - she has made a nerdy friend in her flat, plus the muslim chap who they had a ruck with on day one has turned out to be very caring and fatherly to them, making sure they are all home safe etc.

The other 2 girls keep to themselves and the other lad is "weird", but the flat next door is fun and the lasses upstairs are really nice too, so alls right with the world.

She is, however, nackered and when I spoke to her yesterday, she was planning a nap....

She said "Its awful, when Im hungry, I have to go and make myself food...! Its really hard not to just grab something nice from the fridge..." - I can see her blowing the budget on fast convenience foods once mum shopping is depleted, and having to learn fairly fast about noodles and beans. Grin

Her timetable is full on (30+ hours contact - engineering), and she was moaning that she has 9am lectures every day, so no lie-ins except the weekend.

mrsrhodgilbert · 23/09/2015 11:19

Dd had her first experience of a catered dinner last night and wasn't too impressed. The healthiest choice was a stir fry and noodles with chicken, but each one was cooked individually and she stood in the queue for 40 minutes. Meanwhile the rest if her corridor had all eaten but fortunately waited for her. She was actually craving some vegetables after living on ready meals for a few days. I hope there's a better choice tonight. I need to remind her she has multi vitamins in her medicine tin.

She skyped us last night, just as we were about to have dinner, so we put the iPad on the table and she chatted for about 30 minutes while we ate. She was having an early night, just going to the pre drinks but not the clubbing. There's a pub crawl tonight which she feels obliged to go on, but she would much rather watch bake off.

sassymuffin · 23/09/2015 17:07

DD and her boyfriend are going out for a goodbye meal tonight. He leaves on Sunday and DD leaves a week today. After two and a half years they have decided to split up amicably and go their separate ways and concentrate on university life.

They will be 150 miles apart and while it will be difficult for them both they think it is for the best.
I'm sure the next few days will be full of tears and heartache but at least I will be here to give lots of tea, chocolate, hugs and sympathy.

Just to say that I took my two university dc for their ACWY meningitus jab. The doctor said that the Meningitus B vaccine is now available privately (but not on the NHS as yet) and that she recommended it for university students.
