Hi everyone,

I need some advice regarding starting work while doing an undergraduate degree course. As you all know im a single mom of two girls and have recently completed my first semester and planning to go back to college next week to start my second semester. I'm thinking of looking for a part-time job but I need some financial advice. Like at the moment, childcare and some part of my housing rent is being covered by student finance. If I start part-time work am I going to lose my housing benefit completely and do I have to pay the full rent? if that is so, I wont be earning enough to cover it.Reason why im looking for work is to earn to some extra money while studying to cover my basic household expenses while I study for the time being. Ladies please help?

Why don't you ask Student Finance, or go to your Students' Union Welfare office, or check with Council/DSS re HB? They will be able to give you accurate advice, rather than randoms on the internet!

Meant to say grrr wish there were an edit function here that the Welfare advice office of most Student Unions/Guilds are usually excellent, and specialists in advising students how to deal with big bureaucracies such as the DSS.
