Who tends to write school references? Is it the relevant subject teacher or headteacher/housemaster/housemistress? Or both?

Tutor, but with notes from subject teachers.

Thanks, titchy.

At my dd1's school, each subject teacher had to send in a bit, which was then put together by the student's UCAS mentor. (Everyone had an assigned teacher to steer them through the process.)

Dunno at dd2's yet.

As Atia has said - I have a 6th form group that I share with a colleague (my school always allocates 2 form tutors to each yr12/13 form group) and we split the yr13s between us. Subject teachers write their references and as a tutor I put them together with information about extra curricular etc.

Oxbridge references however are always dealt with my SLT!
