Help with UCAS Extra

Fairyfellowsmasterstroke · 07/02/2015 13:59

DD applied, via UCAS, to 5 universities before Christmas. She's now holding 5 offers but has decided that she actually wants to go to a different establishment which she never listed on her original application.

We've trawled through the UCAS site and would like confirmation that DD do the following:-

Can she decline one of the offers that she holds and then apply through Extra when it opens at the end of February? Will declining an offer actually let DD access the Extra option?

DD has spoken to the new establishment and they have confirmed that they will have vacancies in Extra - is this the correct way for us to deal with her change of mind?

All advice gratefully received.

I was under the impression that Extra was only accessible to those who had not received any offers?

Extra is for those without any existing offers. afaik and stand to be corrected, the only way your dd could do it would be to decline all offers and then enter extra. its risky if she's only going to go for one institution as they any offer form them is not guaranteed and if she applies to the places she already has offers on, they may wonder why she is applying again.

She could keep hold of her offers and then see if the course is still available in August in clearing. At that point she could reject her cf and go for the course she really wants. Do you know if the course she wants is likely to come up? If you need me to check, pm me as I have the last few years' lists.

Extra is for people without offers.

You could decline them all, but you would enter Clearing after results - not Extra. There is no guarantee that your chosen uni/course would even be in Clearing.

It is sounding like she may need to reapply next year.

I stand corrected!

You can decline all offers and use Extra!

Thank you all for your help - I thought if she declined 1 offer that would let her access Extra. Doesn't appear that's the case.

It's certainly risky declining all offers but I think that's the path that we need to go down.

Thanks again for your input.
