MARKERS

Can someone help me.
My son is home educated and preparing for his AS resits and A2 final.
He has done some papers in Chemistry, Biology and Maths which we need marking.
Can anyone recommend a marker? Or an A level teacher who is prepared to do this task for us for a reasonable fee?
18 maths AS
7 chemistry AS
2 Biology AS

I would look at tutors. But tbh, for those subjects it's pretty straightforward to mark them yourself. Either you mark them and give them back to your son to correct, or your son can go through the mark schemes himself and see what he's got right and wrong.

Part of the study and revision process recommended by my DC sixth form is that students do as many past papers as possible and most importantly, read the examiner's report at the end.
I cannot see the point in doing 18 past maths papers without knowing how you had done?
If your DS were doing an essay subject it would be different but for those subjects he should do it himself because that's part of the process.
DS1 kept a spreadsheet of all the past papers he had done and where he had made errors so that he could focus on those areas.

I second what Atia and Squirrels have said. The mark schemes for science papers make absolutely clear where the points are awarded ( to the point of specifying the particular words/terms that are needed to be given) and the examiners report gives an overview of common mistakes/what the examiners were pleased to see. Far better for your DS to mark it himself and take heed of all that than receive a paper with a few numbers scrawled on it!

With the Maths mark scheme which made no sense to me, DD said that full details are given for the steps in the working which will be awarded marks, often with appendices detailing alternative routes to the same answer. On a couple of things she had to ask her teacher where she was going wrong when she couldn't see from the mark scheme how to get started, I'm sure that's the only time a tutor would be useful.

I agree with the other posters. Both of my DSs have done the same 3 subjects, and always marked them themselves from the mark scheme and specifications found online.

I'm sorry to sound harsh, but if he isn't capable of doing this for himself he is no way ready to take the exams.

I agree with secretsquirrels, doing 18 papers in one subject without doing any marking or assessing errors is not only a waste of time, but very detrimental, as errors and misconceptions will be reinforced and reinforced, 18 times over.

Blimey, what a reply. There is nothing to say that the OPs son hasn't marked them himself. Maybe he just wants them checked more professionally.
