I thought I would start a new one, as the last one went a bit 'off topic'! How's everyone getting on? Am so excited, and a bit nervous, as DS has two interviews coming up! How is everyone else's DCs preparing? Also, any tips from anyone who's been there?

Very best of luck to your DD Ange! DS goes next Sunday, have you any others left at home?

Carriemac · 14/09/2015 07:38

Actually he is off to do his favourite subject at a great uni, DS say the boy only applied for med to please his dad.

AnnieNon · 14/09/2015 10:38

Carrie Smile that's good to hear.

Carriemac · 19/09/2015 14:55

Best withes to all the baby medics leaving the nest and big hugs to the parents. DroppedDS on Thursday , v emotional but he is really excited

Mindgone · 19/09/2015 16:36

Thanks Carrie, best of luck to your DS too! We're off tomorrow, and DS is so excited! Shall we pop keep in touch here with news on how they're getting on?

That would be nice . Good luck tomorrow, have you a long journey? Bring door wedges ( and tissues) and keep the paperwork and ID out and pack them last as it's the first thing you'll need

Decorhate · 19/09/2015 20:50

Carrie, we dropped off this afternoon, very busy & no time to help dd unpack as she had to rush to a meeting for the catered students. The city is buzzing, though it seems to be mostly non-students on nights out in the city centre. Will catch up again in the morning & hope to have a quick look around the campus

angethomp190 · 23/09/2015 13:24

I guess they have all left now?!

We are even going to visit her this weekend as her dad took her initially on the 12th. I am looking forward to seeing her and where she is living and so on. She is enjoying it but finding that lots of them go home at weekends or have friends stay who are local and she is too far to come home!

My DS, 16, is coming with us too so that will be good for him too. He is missing his sister.

Hope everyone is okay - children and parents.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 23/09/2015 17:53

My ds is still here! Not off until the 3rd... it's feeling a very long drawn out process. I really think he needs to go and get on with it now. Nearly all his friends have gone and he's at a bit of a loose end. Hope everyone's dcs are settling in and that their poor parents aren't too bereft?

Decorhate · 23/09/2015 18:32

My dd seems to be really enjoying Freshers week. A little bit too much perhaps! Luckily there are two people in her house also doing medicine so hopefully they will all keep each other on track once lectures start in earnest. I'm hoping she will come home for a weekend before Christmas but she can't really plan it till she knows her timetable. I suspect it will only happen if her friends or BF are also home!

Carriemac · 24/09/2015 07:18

ds seems to be settling in and bonding with housemates and neighbouring flat. dh is off to Leeds at he weekend to see the rugby so will meet him and hand over essential items he forgot ( disc drive and fancy dress costume) freshens seems full on, medicine freshens next week so more partying. First formal this weekend , love to be a fly on the wall to see it

Decorhate · 24/09/2015 17:20

Carrie I met a friend last night whose dd is very miserable & homesick. She is really worried about her because of family history of depression. Made me thankful that dd is happy, even if I am fretting about excessive partying. (Didn't realise there was another week after this!)

Carriemac · 24/09/2015 18:07

I think the medic freshers is a bonding excercise, with the opportunity to join all the med specific societies etc. It's good that they are getting settled in, homesickness is just miserable

Decorhate · 24/09/2015 18:30

What does your ds think of the induction programme so far? Dd wasn't that impressed earlier in the week, said it was hard to get to know people when you were all sat in a big lecture theatre. Am glad there was something to fill their days though. Think that is the problem with friend's dd, too much time on her hands.

Carriemac · 24/09/2015 19:51

Yes, I think the full timetable keeps them a little bit sensible the night before, although DS s medic flat mate missed the entire second day due to stinking hangover.
Hasn't said much about the induction, seems to be meeting people ok. Is it tonight they are going out with their medic familly? I think DS is going for pre drinks at his' mum and dads'

Decorhate · 24/09/2015 20:18

I'm not sure - should have copied the timetable before dd left - esp as she mislaid most of the rest of the paperwork that came with it!

Mindgone · 24/09/2015 23:19

DS went off on Sunday, and has had a packed schedule since then! There is only medics and some international students at the uni so far, so DS is in a flat by himself. He is a bit nervous of all the party animals arriving for freshers fortnight (!) at the weekend, when he will have to get his head down for some work! He is loving it so far, and says that everyone is very friendly. He also has a new set of 'parents' and siblings too!

DS has received an unconditional offer from Buckingham today to start January 2016, a huge boost to his confidence.

Decorhate · 25/09/2015 16:45

Oh that's good news! Will he accept or is he going to try UCAS again this year?

HMW9793 · 25/09/2015 17:12

I think he will see how this years UKCAT goes scheduled for next week. He has 2 weeks to decide.

Mindgone · 25/09/2015 18:09

Great news HMW, well done to your DS! Smile

Carriemac · 29/09/2015 10:16

rather cryptic news from DS re the medics initiation last night Decorate, had your DD anything to say?

Decorhate · 29/09/2015 17:11

Ooh no Carrie. She was home (relatively) early I think as I had a text at 1am Hmm. I did see a photo on social media with marker pen on her face which wasn't washing off. Perhaps I will FaceTime her later to see if I can glean anything

Decorhate · 29/09/2015 17:37

Hmm. Just took a sneaky look at the photos again & what I had thought was a drawing of a syringe seems to be something similar but part of the human body. And a rude message on the back of her tshirt. I am perhaps naively assuming it was not self inflicted Grin
