I thought I would start a new one, as the last one went a bit 'off topic'! How's everyone getting on? Am so excited, and a bit nervous, as DS has two interviews coming up! How is everyone else's DCs preparing? Also, any tips from anyone who's been there?

Wow mrsmosquito! Amazing! Well done to your DD! Smile
Decorhate, I really hope your DD gets the grade she needs, she has done SO well, and is definitely an Oxford candidate with her *s!

Game over for my DS, as expected, Pre U grades similar to A*AB at Alevel. so will try three different A levels in a year and do something different unless there is anyone out there who might accept a new chemistry A level in a year (no Pre-u resit options)

Decorhate · 13/08/2015 11:31

Sorry to hear that HMW. Would he consider a different science degree & trying to transfer after the first year?

HMW9793 · 13/08/2015 11:36

DH on phone to Barts Bio Med at present, the problem is they do not understand his alternative qualification , so it is not straight forward. Am i right in thinking candidates got accepted on medicine courses with A*AB and if so where? Very many congratulations to all your DC successes.

angethomp190 · 13/08/2015 11:40

My DD got 4 a levels - A A B B but has not yet been accepted as one of the Bs is in chemistry. She is on a waiting list at her first choice Brighton and Sussex but may have to wait until as long as early next week! Just when I thought the waiting game was over! Congrats to all who have got in.

Decorhate · 13/08/2015 11:44

I don't think anywhere will give out offers of less than AAA now but may accept lower on results day. My dd got AAB which in terms of tariff marks is more than the AAA Leeds wanted so presumably that's why they've accepted it. Oxford not as lenient though! I had heard that Leeds can be a bit flexible from someone whose niece went there

HMW9793 · 13/08/2015 11:59

Oh, I see, thank you. I am afraid they did not do this tariff thing at my DS school, hence he only has 3 post GCSE qualifications thus was not eligable to apply for most universities. We are leaning towards starting from scratch with A levels that everyone understands, perhaps applying to the US or the fee paying medical school. Any ideas?

Decorhate · 13/08/2015 12:29

I have never heard of Pre-U before so don't have any advice. I would check carefully before your ds embarks on A Levels though in case it's viewed as retaking exams? Most medical schools won't accept resits unless there are extenuating circumstances (eg illness)

Mindgone · 13/08/2015 13:02

Ange and HMW, that's tough! DS has got into Leicester with A*AB. I think it's a numbers thing, and it all depends on how many meet their targets. I have no experience with pre U either. Maybe try asking N admissions tutor for advice on the next step forward?

Unfortunately Barts are one of the most inflexible medical schools available. Was that was his only offer?

Check the student room for the latest position on retakes but off the top of my head look at Exeter, Plymouth, East Anglia. If the B equivalent was in Chemistry he'd certainly need to resist and A level in a year is perfectly feasible. He might be expected to get an A*.

Ladyflip · 14/08/2015 07:06

I've been quietly watching this thread for months and wanted to say congratulations to all those who have got their places. My niece has been applying this year and is delighted that she got A*AA and has been accepted to Nottingham.

Mindgone · 14/08/2015 10:02

Thank you Ladyflip, and congratulations to your neice too, that's great news!

Any more news from anyone??

angethomp190 · 14/08/2015 11:46

My dd got into Brighton and Sussex with her 2 A*s and Bs in Chemistry and French. So relieved - just a shame she couldn't celebrate last night with everyone else.
HMW - I'm afraid I don't know anything about pre u's either but I would check that it won't be classed as resitting if you then do A levels.
Congrats to your niece ladyflip.

Decorhate · 14/08/2015 13:41

That's excellent news Ange!

Mindgone · 14/08/2015 13:58

Decorhate, was your DD many ums away from an A? I've just found out that DS was only 5 ums off the A. Thinking of going for the remark in case he should ever need the A, eg if he doesn't love medicine!

OP posts:
Decorhate · 14/08/2015 14:04

Mindgone, 4 UMS which apparently was 2 raw marks. Only 0.7% off an A [gnashes teeth]

angethomp190 · 14/08/2015 19:10

Decorhate - you should definitely consider getting a priority remark.

Decorhate · 14/08/2015 19:13

It's already been applied for ange!

Carriemac · 19/08/2015 14:55

Delighted to announce DS s AAA. And acceptance into leeds, you may remember his difficulties this year with loosing all his hair so this has really given him a boost

Decorhate · 19/08/2015 16:37

Great to hear that Carrie. I have been wondering how he fared! My dd will also be at Leeds! Has he heard about accommodation yet? (We haven't)

Mindgone · 19/08/2015 20:22

Delighted for you and your DS Carrie, I had been wondering about you too! Those grades are a huge boost, and Leeds is fab! Smile

OP posts:
peteneras · 20/08/2015 14:07

Those grades are absolutely tremendous, Carrie. From what I see here, one of the best amongst posters on this thread. Well done and Congratulations! Now, hope he discovers a cure for his alopecia soon. He’d go down in history as the first scientist to find a cure for hair loss, guaranteeing him a fortune of m(b)illions no doubt, but the bane of toupee manufacturers worldwide. Grin

And Congratulations to all others who have their places at medical schools confirmed. Please remember the easy bit is now out of the way and the hard slog begins here.

Carriemac · 20/08/2015 15:05

yes, I have just paid his deposit for self catering at devonshire hall.
Also please to announce today the DTs managed 14A*s and 6As at GCSE between them :)

angethomp190 · 20/08/2015 17:57

Wow - you must be very proud of all your children Carrie - great results. I think it's going to be a busy time ahead putting everything in place and deciding what to take and so on. My DD goes on 12th September which seems early to me. When do all yours start?

Decorhate · 20/08/2015 18:06

Carrie, did your ds receive anything else from Leeds? Dd has had nothing so far apart from a medical questionnaire. I've seen something elsewhere about having to confirm her place but she has had nothing to explain what she needs to do.
