Thought we might need a new thread for the results...

tracey My son had the same thing at Southampton (though not ML). He effectively had 2 insurances, a nice position to be in. He got his Masters grades but others in his year who didn't were still able to move up from their BA to Masters when they proved themselves with their grades in Yrs 1 and 2.

Littleham · 12/08/2014 20:31

Thanks traceyinrosso. Grandparents have now been lined up for Friday to babysit younger ones in case I have to do a 'mad dash Clearing Open Day'. DD1 has been very flexible & has worked hard on researching options today.

I like your story ISingSoprano - if only.... also going crazy here...probably driving all of you crazy too.

Will both your DCs be studying languages? sounds like reassuring news if so-it must be nice to feel fairly confident that they'll be in a good position even if they slip a grade. A friend's DD has a high offer for languages that I know she was worried about, so I hope this will be good news for her too.

I'm feeling quite anxious as the day is getting nearer so have come here to let it out rather than risk anyone else in the family knowing. DS needs an A* for his firm and is not that confident that any of his subjects definitely went well enough to get it. He has a reasonable insurance which should be doable, but will cost us several thousand a year more as it's London and DS will get hardly any more student loan, but the costs will be much more so I've my own reasons for hoping he gets his firm!

Littleham · 12/08/2014 20:34

Yes - both DC's doing languages.

Hope he gets A* Lismore. What subject is he doing?

soprano stories like yours, and friendface's upthread are most welcome to read. I won't go as far to say that they completely calm the nerves, but they certainly help with trying to keep a positive outlook.

Littleham · 12/08/2014 20:59

If a subject is offered at a lower grade in clearing eg. BBB , would you be allowed the equivalent eg ABC ? grasping at straws

debjud · 12/08/2014 21:00

So - please could someone tell me - If DD has missed both firm and insurance, will that show up on the UCAS track? What will it say? (DD away at the moment, so we haven't discussed it - tho she does have a back -up action plan)

seagull70 · 12/08/2014 21:01

Quick question - DD has applied for Psychology but is now pondering whether she would prefer to do Biology instead Shock

So what happens if she gets her firm or insurance offer for Psychology - does she need to accept that first and then try and change courses?

What would the etiquette in this situation? as if things are complicated enough

Littleham · 12/08/2014 21:09

debjud - this is what student room says

If you missed both your firm and insurance offers and UCAS Track is showing that you were unsuccessful, then your Clearing number will show on Track and you are already in Clearing. If you didn't have an insurance offer, then the same applies to you if you missed your firm offer and it shows as unsuccessful. Start phoning around universities with vacancies that you are interested in and provide them with your Clearing number. Admissions tutors will be able to see your full application and might make you a verbal offer. If you missed your firm and insurance offers but either one decides to take you with lower grades then you cannot enter Clearing without first arranging to be released from your existing confirmed place.

Thanks Littleham. Was fairly confident, but panicking a bit now - she has an AAA offer from first choice, and BBB from insurance and would be happy with either (so she says). But just in case...... Will check out student room properly myself now.

lismore · 12/08/2014 22:21

He's hoping to do medicine littleham so I don't think he'd have any option to go into clearing without changing to a different course as I think all the Unis want AAA or A*AA.

traceyinrosso70 · 12/08/2014 22:58

Please will everyone let us know how it goes for their DCs on Thursday - I know I feel like I am rooting for them all as you get a little glimpse of their ambitions on here ! I will post good or bad on Thursday am !

Littleham · 12/08/2014 23:33

Yes - I'll post good or bad too, especially as it will help all the 2015 parents understand the whole rollercoaster..... Will post Irish results the following week as well.

To those unsure if they can get an A* - my dd was convinced by her workings out that she couldn't get any, and ended up with two (and in her EPQ). A year later she's still convinced they made a mistake ;-)

BlueStringPudding · 13/08/2014 07:08

24 hours to go! I have one DD awaiting A2 results and the other for AS so things a bit tense here. We are travelling home from holiday this morning and being away has helped a bit I think.

Good Luck to everyone for tomorrow....

traceyinrosso70 · 13/08/2014 07:41

Well, that was a restless night :( my brain was whizzing round - don't think it was exam related but was hoping for a good nights sleep last night as I don't anticipate much sleep tonight and probably a very early start to the day checking Track with DD !!!!

whatsinaname01 · 13/08/2014 08:00

Morning all. Feel a bit like I've been hit over the head with a sledge hammer this morning, really weird nights sleep with odd dreams. Must be the worry.
I have DS waiting for A2 results tomorrow but it also happens to be DD's birthday. So want it to be a happy one Confused
DD has her Gcse's results next week.
Shouldn't wish your life away but I really wish it was the end of next week.
Good luck to everyone.
Time to put on the calm Mum face and face everyone Wink
Thank god for MN

boys3 · 13/08/2014 08:14

whatsinaname01, it does seem here as well that just wishing results day would come, and as a result as good deal of the summer has not quite slipped by unnoticed, but has had a major distraction. Hope your DS gets the results he needs and that you can all enjoy a double celebration.

Sobering to think less than 24 hrs to go and likely to know the score with DS1's firm by this time tomorrow.

onadifferentplanet · 13/08/2014 08:21

Is anyone being brave and looking at the grade boundaries which are now up?

boys3 · 13/08/2014 08:30

ona are they all up now? AQA's are of interest here. Must admit having read all the awful reports on this, and the Y13 support thread, did have a look at the edexcel A2 Chem grade boundaries. Really hope those grade boundaries do help those DCs who need that Chem grade to get their firm / insurance.

boys3 · 13/08/2014 08:32

bravery here has been looking at the clearing options, and discovering that there might be one of two genuine contenders for DS1 should the worst happen on Thursday.

zizza · 13/08/2014 08:50

Strange dreams here too and a slightly sick feeling this morning. Not going to look at grade boundaries - I remember reading on TSR last year about all the students working out what grades they thought they'd got (those who did sciencey or maths subjects seemed to have already calculated their marks! ). No point - just have to wait - less than 24 hours now.

I work term time so am off at the mo (and dh away this week) - think I might do some decorating!

theheadgirl · 13/08/2014 09:36

Been lurking for the last week on this thread. Dd1 has A level results tomorrow, dd2 GCSEs next week. Have not told the girls but have booked hotel in liverpool for Friday night (that's dd1's 1st choice). Will quietly cancel if she ends up elsewhere.......
Good luck everyone!

Littleham · 13/08/2014 10:27

Bad dreams here too. Made the mistake of watching Divergent with them yesterday, so battled fears all night, with the biggest fear being exam results. Am wrung out.

Grade boundaries are out for AS child (3 look ok, one not so good, but I guess she will drop that subject at A2). I dare not look at the A2 Chemistry boundary.

Time to put on the calm Mum face
It's worth remembering this. Outsiders looking at this thread may think we are a bunch of neurotic helicopter mothers. In fact I suspect others are like me, no one in RL to off load to and trying to maintain a supportive, unworried, advisory role with our DC. MN is the safety valve.

DS has scrutinised and analysed all the grade boundaries. He reckons the maths ones are exactly what he predicted (mathematician that he is) and the Physics and Chemistry are lower than he expected. STEP grade boundaries not up yet though.
