Ski Season before Uni?

cadburyscreamlegg · 11/05/2014 14:06

DS is very keen to do a season in the Alps after A2s next year.
He's found a cookery school that does a 2 week chalet cooking course, he's got the funds to pay for the course.
But, I'm thinking few companies will allow an 18 year old to run a chalet.
Any thoughts?

We've just been to la plagne in France at half termand used silverski as the catered chalet /flight etc company. DH says loads do it. The four chalet hands ranged from lower to mid twenties, although the cook had british experience. Definitely start enquiring now.

Ring round some companies. I am sure some will accept 18 yo. Most may prefer 21+, but you would need to ask.

I did a season many moons ago with crystal.. Had a fab time, but dont do it for the money or living conditions!

If he does get a job he won't be able to live on the wage so be prepared to sub him. He will have a wonderful time though Smile

IIRC Esprit (now merged with Inghams) provide their own chef training - they have a standard chalet recipe book. Might be worth looking there.

\link{http://www.workaseason.com\Esprit/Total/Inghams seasonal jobs page} - their chef course is £550.

DS1 did a ski season in child care & was then able to do a summer one too. He ended up having THREE gap years Hmm but did go eventually!

He's a mad keen skier, and has been saving from his PT job so he should be able to pay for some of the cookery course. we'll sub him of course, but won't tell him yet.
I want him to get a guaranteed deferred place at uni.
We've been with Total which are part of Esprit and the chalet staff were great but definitely older than 18.
Thanks for the links.

We went with skifamille and the hostess was 19 about to go to uni. She was lovely

Have a look at www.natives.co.uk as most seasonal employers will have their job descriptions there and should mention age restrictions if there are any.
