Accommodation Allocation - Ground Floor

Hi there, DD has received her accommodation place today, she didn't get her first choice but has ensuite which is important to her. The only downside is that she is going to a major city and it's on the ground floor .... has anyone else had this concern for their DD? I know realistically it will be fine but she's feeling a bit vulnerable about it. Thanks.

Has she visited the accommodation?
My halls accommodation last year was fairly new and the site was fenced and gated with key fob access so those on ground floor weren't at any risk really! Not from the general public anyway.
Other older accomm sites also were fenced and gated.
It would depend whether there is the security BUT I, personally, wouldn't be too concerned! She just has to make sure she doesn't make herself an easy target for any break ins and insurance would be vital.

DD's first year accommodation was exactly the same (without ensuite)
Room in a shared flat, ground floor, gated and key access to the building, the flat and her room. Just remember to shut the windows when you leave the room.
Her second and third year were spent in a shared house, her room on the ground floor. No incidents of break-ins at all, or even scary people looking through the windows. All in a major city.

Ok, thanks, that's reassuring at least. We visited the accommodation but not this particular block as there was so much to see. She could always ask those questions.

Where in Manchester is the accommodation?
I live there and have been in some of the accommodation. Generally, all the student areas are known so will be mainly students BUT there will be oppurtunists like in any city. I wouldn't worry though, like Silver said, keep windows shut when she's not there and if she goes out, shut the curtains so any valuables can't be seen. All just precaution though.
She'll be fine! At least now everything is sorted she can get excited

Feeling a bit easier about this - DD rang accomodation and was given the number for the exact building (Victoria Park area), and was told that while it is the ground floor, when entering the building you walk up some stairs to that level and the windows are somewhat raised from pavement level so that's good news.

Really exciting now, lots to buy and plan. DD has a couple of girls from school going to same uni and a couple of boys she knows will also be there, so it's all good.

I'll be back on here 16th September in a state of depression.

My sister has just been given exActly the same, ground floor in Manchester and my mum is really worried especially as she's not the most secure/reliable person but from my experience at uni there's generally a fair bit of security. The biggest risk of theft is from within if you leave stuff lying around!

Yeah my DD was assured by the person she spoke to that it is mixed sex on the gound floors there, where as on previous visits to other unis we were told that it's male only on the ground floors.

DD found out yesterday that there is a girl going to be staying on the same floor, couple of doors away i think, who lives about 10 miles from us, so that's good.
