I've been reading some of the posts about parents' worries re how they and their children are going to be able to afford the living costs of going to uni. I remembered an article I'd seen in one of the Sunday mags a while ago and found this link on the net about the Homeshare scheme. Very briefly, a young person (student or otherwise) can look at sharing a house occupied by an elderly or disabled person in return for providing them with company, help around the house and generally keeping an eye on them. It seems like a great concept and beneficial to all concerned. It's definitely something we would look into with our DDs in the future. www.moneywise.co.uk/home-mortgage/renting/home-sharing-how-it-could-benefit-you
