does mn not have a higher education topic?

tethersend · 17/02/2012 22:58

I don't know... I assumed not as almost every thread on here is about HE.

I am a bit bored. But this has been bugging me for a while.

what does higher education mean?

I know further education is education after you have left school - which maybe straight away when you leave school or some time in the future

VeronicaSpeedwell · 17/02/2012 23:10

I was just thinking the same thing, after seeing an Oxbridge thread pop up in Active Convos under 'Further Education'.

EduStudent · 18/02/2012 00:25

I always think the same. This is definitely used for HE, not FE.

FE is sixth form/college, so A-Levels/Btecs/NVQs etc (generally 16-18). HE is Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees (generally 18+).

TessTickular · 18/02/2012 00:26

I thought this too.

The Student Parents topic annoys me as well as is it just for students who are parents who don't work? I want a sub-topic of Working and a Student Parents.

TessTickular · 18/02/2012 00:44

YEs me too Swedish. But then, maybe there are enough topics?

I'd be happy with serious stuff and mindless drivel being the only two topics tbh.

tethersend · 18/02/2012 12:23

This could be a job for pedants' corner...

You know, seeing as everyone in this topic is talking about Uni, yes, it should be called Higher Education.

'Fraid I wasn't at MNHQ when this topic was created so am not entirely sure what it was intended to include but Further Ed is definitely post-16 education - for school-leavers and adults (who may have not been to school for decades). Whereas Higher Ed is University education.

We'll discuss at the Towers next week - and see what's best to do. Thanks for pointing it out.

ivykaty44 · 18/02/2012 13:30

mindless drivel - great idea

telsa · 19/02/2012 23:16

It always bugs me too!

Lilymaid · 20/02/2012 17:19

This has annoyed me for years, but then I'm a pedantic indexer.
