Been turned down at Brighton before interview

That's it really, Im gutted.

Applied for Early Years teaching with QTS and they didn't even want to meet me, I'm doing an Access to Teaching at the moment.

I don't click at all with my lecturer and I'm worried he's written a bad reference for m because he showed the rest of the group what he'd written for them but he didn't show me
I'm now terrified that I'll be turned down by the other 2 choices
I have got 2 spaces on my application so I can apply for other courses later but the only other degree I would do is the Special needs degree which doesn't relate that well to my personal statement, which started, 'I am so passionate about becoming a teacher because....'
Really struggling to stay motivated now

Can you contact them to ask for some feedback? Although they may not do it if you were turned down pre-interview

Can you ask him to show you the reference? Surely you have the right to see it?

Definitely get your reference - your data, your business.

Fingers crossed for the others, admissions is all a bit squiffy this year with the fee changes so who knows what is going.

i would contact them to ask for feedback - if you don't know what is wrong how can you look to fix it.
However, this year there seem to have been some really odd decisions coming out of Unis. My son applied for a Masters course and was interviewed and had 2 offers from RG establishments, but the non RG places rejected him straight from his application forms, 1 of them even commented that he had not shown that he had enough insight into the course, whilst both the RG unis
commended him at interview on his insight and understanding of the subject !!!

Okay in general some places are so over subscribed that they publicly have a lottery, so a lot of it is pure luck.
For teaching, they key things often are: how much experience you have in schools, and what you demonstrate you have learnt from that experience.
But different places are looking for different things, so one place might reject you and another give you a place.
The age range you are going for tends to be very popular, and sometimes people with years of experience as TAs are turned down.

You can get your reference via UCAS..I think you have to pay about £10..but defo worth it, because if you have been given a poor reference you can a) complain, and possibly b) withdraw and reapply next cycle with a different referee!

On the other hand you may just have been unlucky this time and the others will get back to you:)

Have you had any indication prior to this that your current course provider would NOT support your application? The lecturer who who think may have written a poor reference - is he not part of a team - if so it would seem fair if other tutors could have had a input.

If they thought you were not right for a career in teaching, surely they would have told you so before giving you a bad reference?

Definitely ask to see it - it's definitely your right to do so.
