Maintenance grant

My son is home educated and I am a single parent on a very low income. He plans to apply to university this year for 2012. I have heard that the maintenance grant is assessed on the basis of whether the child has free school meals. As my son is educated at home he cannot receive free school meals. Does anyone know what will happen in such a case? Thanks

The means test aspect of the maintenance grant is assessed on your income.

Here's the current info on it but obviously it may change for 2012

Thanks very much - if they keep it with the current system we should be fine but if it is changed to the free school meals criteria we'll be in trouble.

I thought the free schools " criteria " was going to affect how much of the tution fees had to be paid back .
Which would still impact negatively on home schooled children.
Have you tried posting in the home ed forum on here -

Good luck.
