Deferring Uni place question

BibiThree · 19/09/2010 22:16

If I were to apply for a PGCE course starting Sept 2011, and got accepted, could I then defer for a year? And of so, when would I pay tuition fees? In 2011 or the year I actually go 2012?

Thanks

most uni courses are happy to defer places by 1 year (but not by 2). You can (usually) ask to defer at any stage of the application. You would definitely only pay fees when you actually go.

I usually expect applicants to give a sensible reason when they ask to defer, but have never said no.

But that said, other courses may varyin their attitude, and for example things might get awkward if there happned to be a a change in the course or in the entry requirements between the two years.

DD3 defred her PGCE course for a year as she was getting married. She started paying her tuuition fees in the year she actually started.

Thanks both. Not wanting to defer for two years, applications open today for September 2011. I want to apply but financially there is no way I'll save enough for tuition by next summer and have money put aside to live on while I am out of work for a year.
I'm just so unhappy though, at the thought of putting it off for another year. If I knew I definitely had a plce I know I'd be happier and would stay focussed.

So you can either apply for a 2011 place and then ask for a deferment later on, or you can apply for a 2012 place.
