Which highchair??

Hi... am just about to buy a highchair for DS2, but am kaffuled as to which to go for. Really like the look of the wooden ones, but the plastic ones look more practical? Don't know if this is the case, can anyone offer any advice? My budget is about £70.

ikea antilop (under budget) or tripptrapp (over budget)

thanks Eldon. I did want a tripptrapp, but couldn't see the difference between that and the babydan? Except the price of course!?

£10.99 for a high chair?! That seems too good to be true...would earn me some brownie points with Dp though!

nano...over budget, but I have it and it's great. Folds away flat too.

I think Kiddicare has it in other colours as well.

I like the IKEA one.

I bought a pricey padded job and it was the worst choice. It was impossible to clean, there was always another nook or cranny stuffed full of weetabix. I'd keep it simple.

I'm quite tempted by the Ikea one exactly - thats a good point about cleaning Diamond!

Honestly.
Had a padded job given to us. Was the mankiest thing in the world to clean... the crud that get stuck under the padding is like nothing you've ever seen...

We bought an expensive wooden one for ds and it was SHIT! Nightmare to clean, took up loads of room, although on the plus side he does still use it now, a bit like a Tripp Trapp.

For dd we bought an IKEA Antilop. It's lightweight and practical and easy to clean. It's small enough that I can move her into the kitchen so she can watch me wash up, or whatever. The legs also come off really easily so that I can shove it in the boot of the car when we go places for dinner.

If you have an IKEA near you, I would advise that you go for lunch there. You'll get to try out the high chair and have yummy meatballs and chips as an added bonus!

TAFKA you've sold it to me now....and also planned my Sunday. IKEA is 5 mins down the road (literally!). Admittidly I had seen this highchair but dismissed it because I thought it was too cheap (that sounds stupid!)

Does it come with a tray?

I think you have to buy the tray. It's an extra £2.50 or something.

Definitely go to Ikea. I was in there the other day. It's highchair heaven.

God I love IKEA... don't know why I didn't trust it in the first instance! Thank you everyone, so glad I asked (and so will DP, although probably not so glad about IKEA on a Sunday!)

That's exactly the reason why we didn't buy it IWant! We thought it looked rickety and cheap, oh, if only I'd known. I was seduced with ds' because it had a frog on it. Crazy PFBness. I blame the sleep deprivation.

another vote here for Ikea one - is fantastic

It's funny how practicality takes over on the 2nd babe! I got given DS1's (I was in a completly different situation, on my own and skint!) so I was quite tempted to splash out this time! Will definately be going to IKEA though... have my eye on a few other bits that I may be able to twist DP's arm over!

tripptrapp is the best.

Both mine have them, lovely pieces of furniture, 4yr old DS loves his still, and if we have more adults than chairs over some evenings, the tripp trapps double up now as extra seating. Very comfy actually :0)

Only downside is needing to put a tablecloth over the table for the first year or so of weaning etc... because of all the mess and no separate tray. But that is minor.

True- looks to be the same thing. I just like the look of the tripptrapp more. More stylish... but I know that is a ridiculous reason to buy a high chair, even as I type.

But then again, maybe not so ridiculous. Our dining table is in our main reception room, so it's nice to have something sleek (we've got the cherry wood ones) that fits with the rest of the furniture..... I'm just trying to defend the expense to myself now(!)

(one other thing, we bought both of ours in Germany or through continental mail order so slightly cheaper as well. And in Germany the tripp trapp chairs seem to be pretty standard in every house I go in - DH is German)

So, how much did you end up spending in IKEA, IWant? I always seem to spend about eighty quid, even if I only went in for 1 thing!

haha tafka... I actually spent £86!! Would have been double that if DP hadn't been with me! I'm back this week ...

I have to say I'd personally recommend the Ikea Antilop high chair too, as it:

1. goes right up to the table so you feel like your having diner together and they are included
2. you can easily take the legs off and throw it in the car if you're going on holiday or around a friends for lunch

We originally bought a high chair that was a similar style to the tripp trapp highchairs because we thought they looked nice, but the Ikea one by far is better and cheaper.

Should have said...we did by the IKEA one, and thank you everyone for recommending it. It is FAB and all in all, with the tray it cost £14.99 so with the remainder of my budget (+a little more) we got a much needed shoe rack, coat hooks and doormat and some other 'can't live without' bits!

Glad you went with the antilop! Had all singing all dancing wooden affair(albeit second hand one for dd) - hated it really difficult to clean, hard to get dd1 in & out over about 12 months old - huge great thing too

Ikea antilop for dd2 & love it

Antilop is easy to clean & functional - dd2 seems comfy best of all was really cheap - less than £20 including splashing out on the snazzy support cushion.

IKEA Antilop brilliant. However, bought the tray for mine and can't get it off. Am I being thick? Can somebody tell me how to do it please? Thanks
