Recycling car seat

We have an old car seat but what can I do with it? Is there any company that would do safety checks and allow it to be used/resold/given to anyone in need. I know they can’t be easily recycled. It just seems so silly to go to landfill when it’s perfectly fine!

You will probably find someone takes it for free on one of the freebie/selling sites, that's how I gave mine away. Mumsnet's attitude to risk isn't always representative of the general population and some families can't easily find the means to buy new.

If it's still in good condition, never been in an accident, even a minor one, and still has all the parts and less than about 10 years old, I'd list it on a selling/freebie site and tell the person the history (when purchased, number of kids used).

There isn't really a safety check you can do on a car seat but you know the history of it which is the best way to assess the safety.
