Definitely the Ikea Antilop. Its currently being used for the second DC and still going strong!

Mabellavender · 21/02/2019 20:33

The ikea antilop is the most practical (I’ve had them with baby number 4 and 5) but looks horrid, I guess it depends how much you care about what it looks like.

I’m on my 6th baby now and I have an east coast wooden highchair with a wipe clean padded insert I bought from amazon. It’s suits my farmhouse kitchen but is still easy to clean.

QuilliamCakespeare · 21/02/2019 20:52

IKEA Antilop. Used one for 4 years and it was still going strong when we sold it. Cheap, easy to clean, solid. Why buy anything else?

GemmeFatale · 21/02/2019 20:57

Husband wants us to buy a Tripp trapp. What is a good price for second hand?

Bamboo15 · 21/02/2019 21:01

Stokkes

MrsMartinRohde · 21/02/2019 21:10

Tripp Trapp - DS is 9 and still uses it

Carolcool · 21/02/2019 21:51

A lot of people will advise you to buy a cheap Ikea high chair. The real answer is ask around friends etc because someone somewhere is always giving away a 2nd hand cheap Ikea high chair for nowt so even better!

However I do wish I had the Ikea one where the tray pulls off for cleaning. Not complaining about my free one though.

onthebonnybonnybanks · 21/02/2019 21:56

@GemmeFatale I think I paid about £40-£50 for the chair plus about £30 for the newborn insert. I expect I’ll pay another £30 for the high chair insert once baby grows out of the newborn seat.

I have got an antilop and it's ok but I don't love it. The thing that's most annoying is the tray takes the force of several men to remove meaning you can't unclip it for cleaning with your child still in the seat. I'm disgruntled about that.

My vote goes to the Fisher price healthy care booster. I had the rainforest one but they are all good. It's easy to clean, adjusts to different ages, fits a 4 month old up to a toddler and the tray comes off with little effort yet stays in place while the child eats. What's not to like? You can even unclip it and take it out and about.

ToastyFingers · 21/02/2019 23:41

Antilop here too!

AiryFairy1 · 22/02/2019 08:30

Another vote for the baby Bjorn highchair... it’s not very high so baby is at table level which is nice, it has a small footprint and folds flat when not in use. Plus it’s super easy to clean. No straps and a removable tray. Highly recommend!

crunchie12 · 22/02/2019 08:30

Ikea!

TheRhythmlessMan · 22/02/2019 08:36

Bebe Style Classic 2-in-1 high chair bought from Amazon.

Just the ikea one but with clear detachable tray top (so can use each tray for different courses). Both trays in dishwasher.

Cheap. Sturdy. No annoying crevices to clean.

Brilliant.

concernedforthefuture · 22/02/2019 08:45

IKEA Antilop. Nothing comes close.

Raisinbrain · 22/02/2019 10:01

Can't fault the Ikea Antilop!

LaurieMarlow · 25/02/2019 13:38

If you can afford the Tripp Trapp then go for it. If you can't get the Antilop which is a great product. Don't bother with anything in between those two price points.

DrewBM · 09/06/2019 01:59

Sorry about my clumsy approach (typical male), im trying to help a dear friend who's going through the adoption process and im trying to get things for her one being a highchair. As she doesnt know the age of a child yet but is hoping for a wee one between 2-5y, could anyone be kind enough to suggest a product that can be extended so the child can grow into. Ive found products in the USA but not the UK. Many thanks

oyoyoy · 09/06/2019 03:59

Going against the grain here and vote the BabyBjorn highchair as the best. I have friends who come over and are seriously envious they didn't get one for their LOs.

autumneve · 09/06/2019 06:51

@DrewBM Thats a lovely idea.
I only have a one year old so I'm not qualified to help you out (hopefully someone else will scroll down to see your post! Or maybe start a whole new thread?). I believe other options are booster seats for dining chairs (do 4-5 year olds actually use high chairs? Not sure).
Good luck!

DrewBM · 09/06/2019 07:04

@autumneve thank you for your help, never thought of a booster seat so will look

BertieBotts · 09/06/2019 07:10

Drew most children of that age don't use a high chair any more but if you really want something like the Stokke Tripp Trapp (cheaper versions are available) would be good as it adjusts to fit the child as they grow.

BertieBotts · 09/06/2019 07:10

Even a booster seat would be too small for most children over 3, most of them just use the normal seat.

DrewBM · 09/06/2019 07:19

@BertieBotts as im sure you can all tell, i don't have children ao on a steep learning curve. Thank you for the advice

I feel I need to voice this problem with IKEA for others to avoid the same issue. As a working dad with 6 month old twins, I bought the Antilop Cover from IKEA online, which looked great with 2x Antilop chairs with tables and a load of other baby feeding bits to save us the hassle of driving a long way then taking the babies around the store.

However, it was not clear that the Antilop cover item requires a cushion that isn't going to be available online for up to 3 or 4 weeks! Why sell an item online without the cushion it comes with! I admit that the description states cushion sold separately, but it bought everything linked to Antilop and added them all to basket x2 of everything paying £54.95 including £9.95 for delivery, which has taken 6 days to arrive! The photo looks like the cushion is included.

Advice from IKEA's customer services was to drive to my local store, 30 miles away for 2x £3 inflatable cushions which they happily told me they have 357 of in store! They refused to give me a discount code for free delivery when they are online which I felt was reasonable as I've already spent £9.95 on delivery. What's the point of offering a product online if you can't get essential parts with an order?!

CuttingEdgeWorkshop · 06/02/2020 14:12

I found these guys that made a special order for me, they made a high chair out of wood for a good price and i am eternaly greatful for them, i found them here www.workshopce.co.uk/
