Please recommend a highchair!

Db and dsil have asked me to get a highchair for dnephew for Xmas.

It's been a long time since I've had to buy one of those, so would love some recommendations if possible?

Space saving would be great as they don't have a great amount of room.

What's your budget? Personally I love the Ikea Antilop and the Stokke which are at opposite ends of the price range!!

Baby Bjorn. Compact, portable (in the car for visiting) and so brilliantly designed.

I would say the stokke Tripp trapp. It's wooden so easy to clean, takes up less space as fits close to the table, and can be used for years as adapts in height/ with bar/ without/ can get a cushion insert for youngest etc. is safe for an adult to sit on.

We have 2 ATM, one has bar on still for 1 year old, 3 year old uses without bar but seat still higher than regular chair so they can reach the table
It's £122 at kiddicare atm.

Forgot to say I wouldn't get the cossato one. It has a huge base, will only last until max 2 years ( prob 18 months), and the tray means baby can't learn to sit at the table. It's hard to clean as food gets stuck in the material at edges

If I was buying for myself - the antilop as it is bloody marvelous. As a gift id go.for the Tripp Trapp which seems a better fancier gift but im too tight to buy it for us

Buy an antilop and ask them what else they need!

Ikea Antilop is great, easy to dissasemble and brilliant to clean, and ridiculously cheap too. Or if space is a big issue, look at one of those cloth ones that screws to the table and can go away with you, or a booster with tray.

I really don't see the need for those massive highchairs that are really pricey - they tend to mean the baby sits away from the table, which makes family meals hard.

Why on earth would anyone get anything other than the Antilop? I'm confused as to who other brands still exist, especially ones like the Cosatto which are expensive, fiddly, bulky and a nighmare to clean.

Just saw it was a gift. Get Antilop and something else. How old is the baby?

For the OP, the Antilop is great because it's a single piece of molded plastic, which you can just hose down under the shower when it gets covered in food- it has no crevices for food to get stuck in. It comes with or without tray so you can either drag it up to the table, or use it as a traditional high chair. It's one of those things that you don't buy in favour of a fancier model, and then when you've weaned one child, you winder why the hell you didnt .

Thanks so much for the feed back - I think I will go for the stokke - it seems very popular on here and isn't just a highchair, it will last a while and can be used when they have another one too.

Dnephew will be 6 months the week before Christmas

The stokke can also have a baby seat added now from newborn if tey want baby close to them when they eat. They won't need now with 6 month old but can always add later if they have another baby. The stokke is also a little more expensive so a great present for someone who may not have got otherwise

We've got a booster seat - the Fisher-Price healthy care one. It attaches to a normal chair so is great for people who don't want extra furniture around. Works for us & my parents are planning to get at least one for their suddenly increasing number of visiting grandchildren!

Make sure they are happy to have a high chair that doesn't have a tray. I think you can get a tray for either the Baby dan or Stoke (can't remember which) but its worth checking out!

The other possibility is the Phil and Ted's Me too or the Lobster which screws onto the table and folds completely flat. Worth looking at if space is an issue, but as they get older, the table needs to be solid enough to take the weight IYSWIM

We had a fancy pancy high chair which was about £70. What a rip off! We eventually got rid and bought the Ikea Antilop! Fab high chair.
