Hi,
What should we consider when buying a high chair? WWhat are the biggest pains we need to avoid? What is the best model to buy? Our kitchen and dining area is quite big and we do not know how much to spend or how long they are needed. confused!
Thanks.

How easy is it to clean?

The Ikea Antilop is wonderful.

Eglu · 26/08/2010 21:21

Only thing to consider is Ikea Antilop or Trip Trap. Simple really.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 26/08/2010 21:22

No, the only thing to consider is how soon you can get to Ikea to buy your Antilop!

crikeybadger · 26/08/2010 21:24

...just check they've got one in stock before you go!! Grin

TheCrackFox · 26/08/2010 21:31

Get the Ikea one. Cheap, easy to clean, looks good.

catinthehat2 · 26/08/2010 21:38

Don't get anything that resembles this

"Deeply padded seat" means you will be pressure washing Weetabix out of the creases every weekend. I am exaggerating very little.

catinthehat2, that is like the kind of thing Mil wants to buy us.

wukter · 26/08/2010 21:51

I'm not too keen on my Antilop, would prefer longer strap around the belly and shoulder straps. Would like to pop her in there while cooking but not secure enough, IMO.

CMOTdibbler · 26/08/2010 21:55

Honestly, just get the Antilop and/or the Trip Trap (we had both as the Antilop is easy to transport and still use the tt now DS is 4).

Look at any other high chairs and think how banana (which stains horribly) ot wheatabix (whic sets like concrete) could be removed after a baby has spread it liberally everwhere

catinthehat2 · 26/08/2010 21:56

Notso - seriously, don't let her.

THese have been around for years and have 2 major design faults - 1) enormous footprint - they take up a lot of floorspace unfolded 2) squashy cushion nightmare.

catinthehat2 · 26/08/2010 22:00

MIL is v generous & kind (ie they are quite expensive and comfy), but I would honestly ask her to pay for a topnotch car seat instead. Comfort & safety are worth the £££.

Silvj · 26/08/2010 22:00

Got the Chico Polly (too many crevices, covers difficult to get off/on, never used the reclining bit) & really wish we had got the Ikea Antilop or a Trip Trap.

If we do decide to have another baby then off to Ikea I may go.

IsItMeOr · 26/08/2010 22:07

Another vote for Ikea antilop here. Not sure what wukter's dd is doing to challenge it, as we have an extremely physically capable nearly 18mo ds and he has never been able to get out of it or stand up in it yet. He regularly does this in the wooden highchairs we've used in cafes/holiday cottage.

deemented · 26/08/2010 22:10

Ikea Antilop here.

Finally converted for DS3 - wish i'd known about them five years ago when i had DS2!!

notso · 27/08/2010 08:43

Thought I'd been clever and bought everything already to avoid Mils choices, DC3 is not due until Dec so prob won't need a highchair for almost a year!
I thought I was safe.

There's no escape, she's everywhere!

moonminmama · 27/08/2010 08:51

I ignored all advice from mn 4 years ago with ds and bought said comfy padded high chair. big mistake!!! Looks good and was comfy for ds when first weaning, however it was a bloody nightmare to clean, took up loads of space and was expensive... Just as everyone on mn said it would be Smile

I quickly went out and bought the cheapo ikea one which was superb. Expensive fancy smancy one immediately went in garden to be jet sprayed then straight into loft Blush

MrsBadger · 27/08/2010 08:53

notso if she is that generous ask her for a tripptrapp... either you'll be lucky and she will buy it or she'll scream in horror at the price, buy you a carseat instead and you can get the Antilop. Simples Grin.
