You should have been allocated a named SW for the family who can explain the process to you and be there for all the support you need and questions you may have.
The safeguarder is appointed as an independent reporter to the Children's panel. They will speak with all the significant and relevant t people in your GS life.Write and present an unbiased summary of their findings to the children's panel.
All relevant authorities involved with your GS will do the same (GP, HV school).
The reporter will delegate a case hearing to the children's panel and a hearing will take place to which you will be invited, as will your GS.There are usually representatives from the other authorities ( health or school ) too. There will be a SW there to inform the panel of background information and present the safegsurder findings. The panel hearing is convened so that all involved can discuss relevant points associated with the best interest and care of your GS,.
You should prepare what you wish to say or questions you might want to ask beforehand( SW should assist with this).
The panel members ( usually 3)are made up of a variety of people from all different backgrounds , it s voluntary and they have received special training.People who have an interest in children's welfare.
Everyone is there to explore what is in the best interest of your GS and decisions won t be made unless you agree with them.
Hope that helps.
Good luck 😊
