Massage not allowed after hip operation

I booked a massage recently and was asked to fill in a health questionnaire. One of the questions was “have you had an operation in the last 6 months?”. My answer was yes. We had a discussion about the hip operation that I had 8 weeks ago and the masseuse decided that she could not do a massage until I was 6 months post-op.

Now, I am all for her operating responsibly but I was rather surprised. She did explain that there were some risks but I can’t really remember what she said, it was all very vague. My consultant did not say I should avoid massages, I feel fine, the wound is healed, I can walk well, I just don’t understand what the issue is. I did suggest that she did a back and shoulders massage only rather than a full body massage but no, that was not possible either.

I know this is very much a first world problem but nevertheless if anyone who is a masseuse or with more medical knowledge than me could explain then I would like to understand.

What kind of massage?

I booked a full body Swedish massage but they wouldn’t agree to change it to any other kind of massage. So basically all types of massage were out including ones that didn’t even touch my hip .
