Lady of 76 needs home care but can't afford it

Hi can someone advise me please. A woman if 76, living alone in social housing is declining in health. I don't know her very well but she has asked for my help with her shopping and tidying. I have tried but she has been contacting me non stop with all sorts of requests, like stuck windows, walking her dog etc. I just can't do it and asked her permission to contact social services so they could provide something. All they have done is contact her GP. They have spoken to her. I also understand that any help for shopping/help around the home will have to be paid for by the lady. There's no way she can afford this. I'm stuck in a terrible position of not being able to do anything for her - I'm 68 and not too well myself. I'm worried she may fail over. She has no friends or family. Are there any options? Thanks

Contact age concern.
If the lady needs help she will be able to apply for attendance allowance to pay for it, the form is lengthy but Age concern can arrange for someone to go and help her fill it in. Social services should assess her for any care needs though, not just pass her on to the GP.

Social care is means tested so if she can't afford it she will only have to pay a very minimal amount (I don't think ANYBODY actually gets free care, they have to contribute even a small amount).

Yes I would also suggest Age Concern and the Salvation Army.
