My husband and I are contemplating living on approximately £1700 per month. Are any other pensioners couples here living on a relatively modest amount and any tips to save money. I make everything we eat and cook in bulk so I can freeze meals.Any suggestions gratefully recieved.

Depends on household bills,do you have a mortgage ? If not it sounds a reasonable amount to live on

I'm sorry I mistyped the amount . It is just under £1400 for the two of us.Do other pensioners of very modest means manage anything like holidays etc?

Do you have a mortgage? What are your outgoings like?

I'm not a pensioner (quite, yet) and so work two jobs. I live alone and bring in just over £800 a month. The bills are all paid (I rent), although I can't afford to turn on the heating and just have an open fire, everything else is just about manageable. No holidays though, or much travel at all!

That sounds like a good amount depending on your outgoings like mortgage?
