I'm 39, sadly no dear Mum or Gran to talk to. My sister doesn't remember much as she takes a lot of pills and only remembers it being very quick!
Convinced I'm perimenopausal and driving me crazy.
All I know is my Mum and Sister went though the menopause mid forties.
Symptoms are:
Palpitations
Heavy and clotty periods, slightly shorter cycle
Hot flushes, sure my thermostat is up the creak
Struggling to lose weight
Cystitis, or feelings of it, sore and uncomfortable
I've had blood tests, really high at time of ovulation but normal at start of period
What do you think? Xx

Just seen this post and you probably already have resolved the question, but they do sound very peri-menopausal things. I had all these and more from around 42. For about 5 years, no flushes but night sweats that coincided with ovulation and the week or so before period started. They then got more random. Around 52 flushes in the day time kicked off in addition to the night sweats. After 6 months of this I was getting them every few minutes, called it quits and started HRT.

The thing that I didn't realise was peri-menopausal till they went went when I started the HRT, was badly aching joints. I guessed they were just a sign of age or an arthritic thing but they disappeared.

I think the age you start is often similar to when your Mother did, so if your Mum was early 40's, then it makes sense that you are getting peri menopausal symptoms now. My GP said blood tests can be tricky. because you have to time them quite precisely to get an accurate result, and he said he went more by symptoms and history.

How are you doing at the moment?

I just re-read my post and meant that when I was 52, the flushes in the day started, not that i was getting 52 flushes! I wasn't counting them:)
