I'm asking this for my friend.
Her husband has left her they lived in a rented house, she has been given until the contract ends to move out, she is 65 and her only income a pension around £100 per week she's at a loss as what to do, where to go for advice, and what help she could get.. She is not on the tenancy agreement and the contract her husband has a couple of months to run.
Any advice I can pass on please, thanks MM

Tell her to contact AGE UK for advice. Is she sure that's all she gets what about pension credit?

She will qualify for Housing Benefit. She needs to look up her local Housing Allowance rate (for the area she lives in). She will qualify for a one bedroomed property. She then needs to find a property in that price bracket, or try to find a way to make up the difference.

She also needs to ring the pensions service and ask about Guaranteed Pension Credit. That will increase her income to about £130 a week, assuming she has no other assets.

She does not claim pension credit I'm sure as her pension around £100 she also has her grandson living with her. He is 18 and was doing part time work, but is now looking for full time he also special needs, he's been with her since birth and until he reached 18 was his guardian ...will that qualify her for two bedroom the pension is her only income, as until a few days ago was maintained by her husband, who is working.

With her grandson she is entitled to the two bed rate.

Is she still getting tax credits for her grandson - if he is in education they can continue until he is 20.

If she is not getting tax credits or child benefit for him, I don't think it would affect a claim for pension credit, although I am not an expert on pensions (HB specialist)
