I have just posted on how lovely and special my MIL is to me and my family. My PIL have just taken one of my sons on holiday and I want to thank them for giving him the chance of quality one to one time with them He loved it!

as a thank you I want to buy them sometime which will last and will remind them of a very special holiday. So I have selected my FIL a rose for his garden which will suit him . I would also like to buy a large lavender bush for my MIL. She likes purple, it will smell wonderful and it will endure.

Question is,...do you grans thing lavender is naff and if so, what would you like to receive instead?

I'm a gran, and that sounds like a lovely gift. I keep lavender plants by my back doors, they help keep the flies away.

(Lavender is quite popular again these days, the wisdom of our grannies is back in fashion!)

I think a plant is a lovely idea and I would think your MIL will like it. Lavender cosmetics may be a little 'old lady' but a plant for the garden definitely isn't.

How lovely that you get along so well with your in-laws. Smile

I'm a gran(nanna),and if I could really choose a gift,it would be an afternoon with the lovely blonde and bronzed Callum (aged about 26) from number 48.

But failing that,a lovely plant would be smashing! Smile

Crazynana,...probably could not sneak a "Callum" past my FIL,...mind you the first thing she would do to him would be to feed him and then check if he wanted any baby sitting done that night!!

80's Mum, I am very blessed with my PIL - as are my boys. I love them dearly and they are an integral part of my sons' childhood. I am always so dismayed to hear how difficult the DIL/PIL dynamic is for so many people.

Thanks for the yes vote ladies, will get the lavender!!

Plants always appreciated, in my experience. I have lavender by my steps do I smell it as I climb up.
My mum's had money for plants and or pots for her birthday for years. Horrible stony soil so she plants up lots of pots.
