Hi all,
Gransnet launches today, it's basically Mumsnet but specifically for Grans. Now you are by no means under any obligation to go there if you'd rather hang out here, but if you fancy taking a look, please feel free. You could always do both. Any feedback is most welcome. Txs

Hi Justine,
I launched a website for grandparents in February.....so beat you by three months!
We also have a talk section - for both grandmothers and grandfathers, and a lot of advice for grandparents new and old.
Perhaps we should get together?

virtualgranny · 05/05/2011 15:51

Hi and welcome to Gransnet from virtualgranny.com - we launched last year with lots of articles and video slots of interest to lively grandparents.

Love to link up with all the other grannysites and lets get following on Facebook and Twitter too.

Here's to granny power! www.virtualgranny.com

Just got my mum logged onto gransnet...she's nannyogg..bit there is already a NannyOgg..oh well, thought she would be the first...!!

madhattershouse · 06/05/2011 00:03

Oh....and she loves it!! Great idea Mumsnet!

madhattershouse · 06/05/2011 00:06

Can I add that google only directs you to the mumsnet discussion on gransnet rather than the site itself...we used the link to get to it but if you want more user traffic it needs a link from Google

Mellowfruitfulness · 06/05/2011 09:20

But Gransnet will continue on Mumsnet, won't it - for those of us who still have kids at home as well as being grand parents?

Not sure I understand why you decided to launch a new site, tbh. Was it just to make more money and so that advertisers could target grannies more effectively?

Helmar · 06/05/2011 10:07

Hi, I have posted on gransnet, (on here) before but not many people use it so i will try the new gransnet site - looking forward to it!

annawintour · 06/05/2011 10:11

I'll be interested in the content of Gransnet. At first with Gransnet and Virtualgranny I was think how cool it would be if you could adopt some grandparents if you don't have any - you know like ask a gran?

I have found that mn can get really really nasty - so let's hope that Gransnet won't be such a bun fight.

thedirtydirtybastards · 06/05/2011 10:14

fgs, 12 posts on this thread - 2 of them advertsising other sites, two withdrawn and one slagging MNHQ for encouraging advertisers to target grannies Hmm

I think it's a great idea. And will be popular.

Mellowfruitfulness · 06/05/2011 10:19

'slagging MNHQ for encouraging advertisers to target grannies'? I didn't think that was what I was doing, but ... yes, you're right. I don't like targeted advertising. I find it creepy.

Also there are a lot of grannies who are under fifty, and when I looked at the site, it seemed aimed more at over-sixties. Having said that, I don't see it as a problem - rather it could be a good idea.

nagynolonger · 06/05/2011 21:52

I have come to have a look. I'm a granny now but still have teenagers at home so will visit both.

Penelly · 08/05/2011 13:29

Hello, what a brilliant idea!
I am an artist and also a mother of five; grandmother of three...becoming a 'grandmother' doesn't make you suddenly a lesser person, quite the reverse in fact!!!
I look forward to seeing what sort of topics appear on the site and hope to be able to contribute in some way...

mum2supercharlie · 10/05/2011 20:45

I love the logo for Gransnet, such a cool retro idea!

The lady holding the flag does look like she has a tattoo on her inner arm though! I know it is supposed to be a shadow but does anyone else think it looks like one? At first glance I thought it an anchor! But then another look at her and I thought she didn't look like very naval!
