Maths Masterclass run by LA

DD1 (11) has been chosen along with a boy in her class to attend 3 Maths Masterclasses over the next 3 Saturday mornings which are run by the LA as part of the G&T provision.

Whilst obviously I'm chuffed she was chosen she lacks self-confidence and she is concerned that 'all the other kids there' will be brilliant and she might not keep up.

Has anyone else experienced these masterclasses and could let me know what they are like ie are they fun, v. hard etc?

Many thanks.

My DD went to a masterclass at local secondary school and one in the school holidays, both were fun days and she really enjoyed them.

Thanks bruffin - that's encouraging.

Anyone else?

Well done to your dd . Usually when you go to something like this there are one or two 'out there' clever kids and everyone else seems quite normal. I'm sure the school wouldn't have chosen her if she would be out of her depth.

ds2 (10) goes to a maths masterclass run at the local secondary school. There are 1-3 children from each feeder primary, so quite a variety in mathematics ability.

Generally though I think it is a good thing for 'bright' children to encounter others who are even more able than they are!

Thanks all for the encouraging words - I just hope she ends up enjoying it or I won't be able to get her back for the other 2 sessions!
