stop it. It's pathetic.

Thanks.

I don't think it's remotely true that clever people can't fit in.
KM, you are just being stupid and nasty. There are no gloating, self-congratulatory posts on SN, and the G&T board is alive with them, and posters who believe their six month old is too good for any school etc.

I really do feel that some parents need to get over themselves.
I cannot see the big fuss on some of those linked threads.
The only threads I feel that OP's should not be attacked / judged / questioned are bereavement / special needs / feeling depressed
But for the rest of the boards - people do need to take a step back and stop taking it so personally. Every thread I tend to go on seems to have some uber sensitive poster reacting to the OP because they have 'suffered' what they feel is being criticised.

So should we vet posters to make sure they are not taking the piss before they start a thread? What about MN requesting a letter from their child's school to prove they are G&T? Just not possible is it. The whole site is reliant upon it's members to use it with consideration to the other members, taking the piss out of G&T children by starting shit threads that are designed to take the piss isn't on.

(I'm from the camp that thinks all children are bloody brilliant, whether they have SN, whether they are G&T or whether they are "average")

"I say it like it is"
Even you know that's not true.
Being quite good at chess is hardly a fecking disability.

the problem is as people have repeatedly said is that probably 90% of childrne currentlyy lableed as G&T are not by the vast majority of pople definitely either G or T.

If I had a child who had special needs because he was exceptionally gifted I would be more pissed off with the "Tommy is so gifted because he knew at his colours at 3 months" brigade than with those taking the piss out of them.

if anyone would like to start a thread on teh adoption topic about how up our own arses we are - I can take it...

Report
Greensleeves · 10/11/2008 22:43

That's because most of us (even those with children who are Very Good At Chess) think it's crass and faintly ridiculous to post on the G&T board as though intelligence were a disability.

There are alot of very bright children who have mental health problems. They often have problems fitting in at school because they are unable to relate to their peers. Some are bullied at school because of their ability. This is a burdon no?

Do the children ever get laughed at? I'm not sure I've seen that. The parents, God yes. But then that is the way of MN. There have been some cracking spats on the only child family (or whatever it's called) section recently.

the thread that kicked this off

kerrymum, the discussion on this thread has very little to do with your initial issue with my toy piano thread. in starting another thread to complain about me you have misled people into thinking i have issues with the G&T threads which i don't.

It wasn't this one. There have been several. I'll see if I can find it.

Who is laughing at these kids? You don't know what real problems are .

I get fed up reading all the myths about the G&T programme too on here. Many teachers seem to bash the kids on it too. Such a shame.

ie I cannot find 10% cohort in my year to put on it. Maybe they should go back to basic maths classes, why is it so funny?

No DragonButter, she hasn't. We're just lobbing her the odd hunk of raw meat to keep her here, away from all the sensible trheads
