seriously? it's not a real definition is it? It's just an arbitrary and rather pointless label some schools take more seriously than others. Are your children happy at school? Are they thriving?

Yes, my kids are doin great ta. Was just curious as i have just joined MN and wondered what this was all about!

For me, G&T means performing highly coplicated algebra-type mathematics aged 3 or reciting Beethoven symphonies after hearing it once

Not being able to count to 100 by 2nd birthday or roll over age 6w as some posts on MN sometimes suggest

I know fuck-all about it though

At the risk of sounding really mushy arent all kids "gifted"/a gift in their own sweet way anyway?

I do think the 5% thing is barmy. I can see there's merit in giving more able kids more stretching work, but to stipulate that in every class, 5% (and no more and no less) are G&T seems to be crazy.

With ds1 was obvious from very early on still true today at age 14.5yrs

With dd was shocked when school said it.thought she was bright and enthusiastic and a decent reader, good with numbers but with visual SN

Turns out she is able to work 2yrs above her yr1 class

But not apparent to me
Reckon she will level out some
Ds1 never has

I agree with Malory-more able does not necessarily mean gifted. Surely "gifted" means just that, that they have a uniqueness that separates them from the others??

What separated this child from the others?

Do you know what she went on to become?
