Starting to notice that I can predict things..

I am not gifted or talented but not sure where else I can put this 😂. So I’d like to start by saying, I’ve been through alot of tough things over the past few years, I lost my mother, my grandmother, my auntie and my uncle in fairly quick succession to each other. I had two babies, moved home and suffered a severe nervous breakdown. I took time to heal and get better (now unmedicated and feeling/doing fantastic) HOWEVER, I am starting to notice a weird coincidence in my brain “thinking” or “predicting” something and it happening soon after. So for example I was sitting in group of people who were talking about a property in a neighbouring village ( I had no idea about the property, or who lived there) someone asked another person “whats the name of the woman who lives there again?” and my brain just thought of a name (it was a very unusual name “Nans”) and lo and behold, that was the ladies name 🫤. Another example was I had bought 4 tickets to see a show, but my brain thought the day before “this ladies name isnt going to come, and I’ll have a spare ticket” lo and behold, a phonecall morning of the show to say she would not be coming but to give her ticket to someone else. There have been many other examples, but is this something? I would like to explore more into this, does anyone have any experience of this?

Lottery numbers?

InvitingMattress · 01/07/2025 10:08

Pure coincidence, OP. Just live your life.

You forget the times what you thought didn't happen, which is probably 50% of the time if it's an either or type thing. You probably heard about the house, or saw an advert somewhere else and your subconscious remembered, and you probably knew your friend was flaky.

Otherwise lottery numbers are the way to go, report back if you win multiple millions.

It might just be cognitive bias, unfortunately. Because you've been through a lot lately you're in the state of mind that is noticing these coincidences. Can you think of all the times that you HAVEN'T come up with the right thing/word/number? It's likely to exceed the times you have. Coincidence is a thing and it happens quite a lot, but when you're in a more sensitive frame of mind you are more likely to see patterns in thought and behaviour.

NewTribe · 01/07/2025 10:13

I definitely don’t think it’s anything supernatural as I think that’s all complete rubbish. It might feel like it’s happening a lot because you are thinking about it and looking out for it. You might also be the type of person who thinks about different possibilities a lot so is more likely to foresee different things happening.

Knowing the womens name before it was said sounds exactly like déjà vu. I get that fairly often and it really feels like I am reliving an event blow by blow. It doesn’t go on for long but everything that happens I already know is going to happen. It’s just a little hiccup in your brain and is of no consequence. I love it when it happens. Hello

Because you’re noticing and linking unrelated things into a perceived ‘pattern’ of correct guesses, and forgetting the many you got wrong because it doesn’t suit your narrative of yourself as having developed psychic powers!

Im not being mean, OP — it’s great that you’ve recovered from your breakdown and are feeling well. Just enjoy it. Normal life is enough in itself.

ScratCat · 01/07/2025 10:13

Intuition is a thing, the rest is just happenstance.

My husband calls me a witch because on several occasions I have dreamt things that have happened. Really weird things, sometimes about people I barely know. Almost always health or accident related.

Am I psychic? Nope. I don’t believe anyone is. It’s just weird coincidences.

minnienono · 01/07/2025 10:15

This happens to all of us sometimes because we are only remembering when it happens not the 200+ incidents a day when it doesn’t

SamDeanCas · 01/07/2025 10:15

I love reading about stuff like this, when I was in my teens and early 20s I would do this. Really odd feeling, like déjà vu but I knew it wasn’t a place, thing or action I’d done before. It hasn’t happened for many years now.

I used to think I was just very perceptive and hyper aware. I can see now it was down to trauma I’d experienced which made me very aware of people and their actions. I think I was just very good at reading people because I had to anticipate my parents and husbands moods, actions etc. so got good at anticipating people’s moods and actions. Still doesn’t explain some of the things tho

MagpiePi · 01/07/2025 10:17

It is confirmation bias - you remember when you appear to predict something but forget all the times when it didn't happen.

TheCountessofLocksley · 01/07/2025 10:18

Coincidence - you notice it because of confirmation bias. Same thing with people who visit clairvoyants - they remember the bits that the clairvoyant got “right” or fitted a future event.

I’m guessing the person who dropped out is already a bit of a flakey friend, even though you may not have consciously recognised this. The name of the house owner - more unusual but still a fluke/councidenc- there is chance you have heard this ladies name before - maybe an overheard conversation and your mind has tucked it away until needed.

Many Christians believe that dreaming of future occurrences is a supernatural gift .
They believe that there is a spiritual and physical realm and that through dreams one is able to see into the spiritual realm

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 01/07/2025 10:19

As PP have said, it’s confirmation bias. Your brain remembers all the times you were right, not the hundreds of times you were wrong.

TeaAndStrumpets · 01/07/2025 10:32

DD was flying to Vancouver on a tight budget for an academic event. I offered her some extra money to help out, but she said there was no need. I said it would be useful to have a bit extra "in case you break a shoe or something." She laughed.

Of course her shoes survived the trip but the zip broke on her winter boots! Very inconvenient in a Canadian winter. The hotel clerk directed her to a neighbourhood cobbler who replaced the zip very quickly.

Giggorata · 01/07/2025 10:36

Intuition is a thing, as is clairvoyance, although you'll get only denial and disbelief on this site.
If you want to pursue it further, there are various books or websites to inform you, or you could go it alone by keeping a dreams/insights journal, meditating and see what happens.

good job beliefs aren’t facts then.

Marinamay44 · 01/07/2025 11:01

I have sometimes had dreams about meeting a person that I haven't seen in ages, then I did actually bump into them on the street the next day.

I mean. There are examples of this in the Bible I guess, but it tends to be useful information like warning a nation to prepare for some impending catastrophe. I once had a complete stranger come up to me in the supermarket, said she was from a local church and that God had told her I was going through x and y difficult situations (things that nobody outside of my family would have known) and she offered me some encouraging words. Maybe God had told her that, or maybe she was connected to our family in a way I was unaware of and had come by the information that way. But it was uplifting in any case and did help me get through that season to feel like there was Someone looking out for me.
I can't see why God would bestow upon someone the fairly pointless ability to guess another person's name correctly. That's a cool party trick I suppose, but it's a hardly a gift from the Lord!

DiscoBob · 01/07/2025 11:19

I think you must have known the woman's name somehow and forgotten that you knew it until that conversation?
The other thing about your mate not coming to something. Well, there's a 50/50 chance anyone could cancel. It happens all the time. And you must know about that person and their patterns of behaviour. Even if it's subconscious.

pharmer · 01/07/2025 11:25

Once I was walking past a stand by the door of a supermarket which was selling raffle tickets in aid of a charity. I suddenly had a feeling without a shadow of a doubt that I would win The prize was something I didn't want so I gave it away, but yes.... Weird!

ConflictofInterest · 01/07/2025 11:48

Likely just coincidences but given your mental health difficulties and recent stress if this continues to happen or worsens you should speak to your GP as it can be a sign of psychosis
