Starting to notice that I can predict things..

I am not gifted or talented but not sure where else I can put this 😂. So I’d like to start by saying, I’ve been through alot of tough things over the past few years, I lost my mother, my grandmother, my auntie and my uncle in fairly quick succession to each other. I had two babies, moved home and suffered a severe nervous breakdown. I took time to heal and get better (now unmedicated and feeling/doing fantastic) HOWEVER, I am starting to notice a weird coincidence in my brain “thinking” or “predicting” something and it happening soon after. So for example I was sitting in group of people who were talking about a property in a neighbouring village ( I had no idea about the property, or who lived there) someone asked another person “whats the name of the woman who lives there again?” and my brain just thought of a name (it was a very unusual name “Nans”) and lo and behold, that was the ladies name 🫤. Another example was I had bought 4 tickets to see a show, but my brain thought the day before “this ladies name isnt going to come, and I’ll have a spare ticket” lo and behold, a phonecall morning of the show to say she would not be coming but to give her ticket to someone else. There have been many other examples, but is this something? I would like to explore more into this, does anyone have any experience of this?

In 2004 I had a vision of me walking down the road with 2 little dd's called x and y. Def wasn't having more dc...
Did indeed have 2 little dd's and used those names. Def not names I really would have chosen.
In 2012 post divorce I had a vision I met a man named x who worked at y.

One night had a urge to go out. At a bar met a stranger called x who worked at y... He lived in my village (at the end I never passed) 10th wedding anniversary soon and we have 1 dc..
Always trust my judgement these days!
.

Likely just coincidences but given your mental health difficulties and recent stress if this continues to happen or worsens you should speak to your GP as it can be a sign of psychosis

Ok thank you for that but I am not in any state of psychosis, I am 100% well thank you 😅 the stresses were a good few years back, life is wonderful :)

But I didn't, I had no idea what property they were talking about. Also ticket wasnt for a friend it was for a friend of a friend. But these are only a couple if examples, others have been more strange. I suppose if you don’t believe in that sort of thing it probably is coincidence though :)

I feel I have second sight on MN. Whenever there's a man on the relationships board who is treating his partner in a selfish way, insisting that she does things for his children that he isn't doing himself, I always know he's moved into the woman's house and isn't paying rent and at most pays a token amount, eg 50:50 when he and two kids have moved in and each of them eats more than the OP.

Coincidence - you notice it because of confirmation bias. Same thing with people who visit clairvoyants - they remember the bits that the clairvoyant got “right” or fitted a future event.

I’m guessing the person who dropped out is already a bit of a flakey friend, even though you may not have consciously recognised this. The name of the house owner - more unusual but still a fluke/councidenc- there is chance you have heard this ladies name before - maybe an overheard conversation and your mind has tucked it away until needed.

I do actually believe in clairvoyancey/mediumship etc which is maybe why im noticing as well 😅

OP posts:
Beerhy · 01/07/2025 12:38

I came to say it sounds like you have developed really good pattern recognition, the name example kind of messes with that a bit but the person cancelling doesn’t. Even if this person doesn’t cancel a lot something might have tipped you off. I have found that I take a lot of information in that I haven’t realised (wish it was useful 😂) so maybe you heard the name in passing somewhere?

Auroraofthedawn · 01/07/2025 12:39

Check out the podcast The Telepathy tapes, this is real!

Mh67 · 01/07/2025 12:40

My mum was creepy with things like that. My daughter and I have the same thoughts at the same time

JTBB33 · 01/07/2025 12:41

I think this is a classic symptom of overthinking. Probably caused by trauma. Your brain is going over almost every scenario and by the power of probability, it’s going to get some things right. My entire family call me a witch because I’m constantly doing this, but I genuinely believe it’s because my brain is so over active. Obvs, would much prefer to think it was a super power and did so for many years!! Who knows 🤷🏼‍♀️
only last week I won a spin the wheel competition out of over 60 people. The minute they announced the competition I knew I was going to win it. Lo and behold, the pin landed on my name! Was festival tickets I ended up giving to another team member because I couldn’t go. Probably why I knew I’d bloody win! That’s just my luck!

JamMakingWannaBe · 01/07/2025 12:45

The timing of this thread is pertinent to me as something I dreamt about a while ago happened in real life over the weekend and it is unsettling when you realise.

Marinamay44 · 01/07/2025 12:49

I think we all have psychic/ intuitive powers.

We have just stopped using them over generations out of fear, because men used to burn women at the stake , who displayes any psychic powers.

If this is something you'd like to explore further, your local Spiritualist church would be a good place to start.

I can usually predict what’s likely to happen based on past behaviour. It’s just insight

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 01/07/2025 12:59

I've been able to read some people's minds for most of my life -- it's like their immediate thoughts or answer to a question suddenly pops into my head before they say it. My mum said I started doing it with her when I was about 3 and there are too many examples over the years for it to be pure coincidence. Weirdly my 5 year old daughter now does it! 8 year old is completely normal.

I do believe that our brains are far more complicated than we can comprehend and we are all connected, that there may be something in these "telepathic" events.

Never been a useful skill, mind!

I have also been able to hear people's thoughts about me sometimes.

I heard my friend think something. You can kind of hear the thoughts in the air.

Then he said it. He said what I had already heard .

I have heard my colleagues think things too. Then they say what I heard five minutes later.

The most recent answers are really interesting and kinder than being told I should check with my GP for psychosis 😅 I do believe in coincidences, but I also believe in more, using energies, intuitions “higher self” and listening to it for more insight :)

BreatheAndFocus · 01/07/2025 13:17

Coincidences are more common than you think, OP. Your brain is also working away in the background and you don’t realise. With the house thing, you’d probably heard or seen the lady’s name before but hadn’t consciously registered it. With the tickets, you were probably worrying about someone not coming and simply got the right person.

RJF2018 · 01/07/2025 13:18

I know exactly what you mean, similar things happen to me ALL the time. Just random thoughts about things that then happen. Most could be explained by coincidence apart from the fact it happens far too frequently. I mentioned it to friends recently and asked if it happened to them too and they confirmed it does not! I'm not a huge believer in mediums and things like that but I do definitely find it odd.

Respectfully, OP, then, you are a credulous, superstitious person. This is why you think you have psychic powers, because you lack critical thinking.

I used to struggle with decisions, like wgich way to go.

Now i try to feel into my intuition before i make a decision.

Which way feels better.

Liondoesntsleepatnight · 01/07/2025 13:29

I have had a few situations like this, premonition almost. Totally bizarre situations, one an armed robbery, another was a river death, both in the correct locations. I’ve not finalised plans for something, only for that event to get cancelled, so I was right to not book transport /hotel etc.

TBH it scared me a bit, I’ve tried to forget about it/blamed menopause. I’m not woo, critical thinker.

OP try and sink into these feelings? Examine them more?

I haven’t mentioned anywhere or declared that I have psychic powers. I have asked for experiences and is there any way to explore it more :) Also would not use credulous as a word to describe myself but I do think some people are a little too prepared to be narrow minded and not prepared to explore anything else but their own view point.

Witches were hanged, not burned (unless you are in Scotland or on the continent, where they did burn them).

GAJLY · 01/07/2025 13:35

I get this too! My kids say I'm psychic! My daughter will say something happened today, I'll say the name (no one I know of, just randomly pops into my mind!) She'll say, yes!!! Omg! Sometimes She'll ask me what they look like, and I'll describe them perfectly! 🤪

Also respectfully, because your experience and opinion differ, which you are of course entitled to, doesn't necessarily mean it's correct or the experience of others - that people who believe in the psychic world are any more gullible or lack critical thinking than anyone else.

There is a lot more to ' life' than meets the human senses and understanding.
