Starting to notice that I can predict things..

I am not gifted or talented but not sure where else I can put this 😂. So I’d like to start by saying, I’ve been through alot of tough things over the past few years, I lost my mother, my grandmother, my auntie and my uncle in fairly quick succession to each other. I had two babies, moved home and suffered a severe nervous breakdown. I took time to heal and get better (now unmedicated and feeling/doing fantastic) HOWEVER, I am starting to notice a weird coincidence in my brain “thinking” or “predicting” something and it happening soon after. So for example I was sitting in group of people who were talking about a property in a neighbouring village ( I had no idea about the property, or who lived there) someone asked another person “whats the name of the woman who lives there again?” and my brain just thought of a name (it was a very unusual name “Nans”) and lo and behold, that was the ladies name 🫤. Another example was I had bought 4 tickets to see a show, but my brain thought the day before “this ladies name isnt going to come, and I’ll have a spare ticket” lo and behold, a phonecall morning of the show to say she would not be coming but to give her ticket to someone else. There have been many other examples, but is this something? I would like to explore more into this, does anyone have any experience of this?

Likely just coincidences but given your mental health difficulties and recent stress if this continues to happen or worsens you should speak to your GP as it can be a sign of psychosis

This was my first thought.

Thats very kind of you to think that way 😅 but given the replies here that many experience this should we all speak to a GP incase of psychosis? 😂🙈

I’m sorry if you found it rude. It’s not that rare for people to feel these things as they hit a MH crisis. Obviously ignore me if it’s unhelpful.

There has been a fair while since that period of time in my life, i am not currently suffering a nervous breakdown :) I am very well and life is good x

Another weird time was on the last day of our honeymoon, when a woman was walking towards DH and me, about 100m away and I got that flood of calm and knew she was going to attack me.

Why on earth wouldn't you get out of the way, then? I wouldn't walk towards a woman I knew would attack me!

Ohthatsabitshit · 01/07/2025 16:10

Why on earth did you start your post about your uncanny “ability” with I’ve been through alot of tough things over the past few years, I lost my mother, my grandmother, my auntie and my uncle in fairly quick succession to each other. I had two babies, moved home and suffered a severe nervous breakdown. I took time to heal and get better (now unmedicated and feeling/doing fantastic) ? If you actually think that is all in the past and irrelevant?

I think its relevant in that experiences open you mind into new ways of thinking /healing etc changes your outlook and views.

I have sometimes had dreams about meeting a person that I haven't seen in ages, then I did actually bump into them on the street the next day.

As in ‘I thought/dreamt many times about bumping into somebody, then once on one occasion I did’. Hmmmm….

The comments about confirmation bias are interesting. I didn't realise it had a name and that will account for a lot (probably).

I will also say that I have become much more likely to predict how things will pan out/ what happens next but I think that's just the wisdom that comes with age and experience as you "learn" about human nature and how people respond to situations, what their preferences are etc.

Also, would you say you are an introverted person? I am so i spend more time watching and listening rather than speaking. I also suspect I'm on the spectrum (one of my children is diagnosed) and I seem to notice a lot of fine details about people that wouldnt register with most people. That becomes part of the "learned wisdom".

I have had prescient dreams from a very young age and strong gut feelings/intuition all my life my daughter and friends call me a witch.
I am also incredibly lucky knowing I am going to win something with absolutely certainty for example or needing money and it arrives.

It used to concern my mother when I was very young and some elements bothered me growing up but I started leaning into it more when I was in my 40’s and now never ignore an instinct.

I suspect for me it’s partly whatever neurodiversity I have going on making me recognise patterns and more importantly their deviation and also tiny behaviour changes in others.

I am happy to completely change my plans even big ones if my gut feels off.

Good question. I had that feeling I have explained of inexplicable calm but also of inevitability. If I had suddenly crossed the road and drawn attention to myself, she might have got more aggressive. We were heading to a restaurant that was just a few metres away and by the time I had explained to new DH why I wanted to cross the street when the restaurant was on the same side we were walking on, and he'd said, don't be daft, she'd have reached us anyway. And I think (it was years ago) my rational brain was also processing it as a totally irrational thought. Then it happened, and I wasn't surprised and still felt calm and didn't react so there was nothing to wind her up further.

I think its relevant in that experiences open you mind into new ways of thinking /healing etc changes your outlook and views.

just to add as well, people who have been through traumatic experiences often find themselves searching for alernative ways of healing, such as visiting reiki healers, mediums etc, so it further opens up your once narrow mind to things that it once could not possibly comprehend :)

OP posts:
Supersimkin7 · 01/07/2025 17:43

None of it’s supernatural, OP. Any medium or reiki practitioner would tell you the same - intuition is much stronger than we acknowledge.

You don’t have special powers.

Ive not said anything about being supernatural? Or mentioning special powers? Not one reiki healer has “super powers” it’s all about tuning into your higher self/ listening to your intuitions etc, hence me asking how to explore it further??

I have this. I put it down to being a sixth sense type thing. ESP? Not sure what that actually is though but sounds right.

Livemenot · 01/07/2025 20:18

I believe in that sort of thing. It’s very interesting, I would start taking notes and record things that happened so you can understand more about your ‘abilities’. The best of luck! :)

People hate to think this is real! We are conditioned to look at things only scientifically and that is one good way of looking at things, but can science quantify how much you love your child? Not really, so does that mean you don’t love them? I love stuff like this and similar things happen To me. Don’t be put off by negative responses.

Thank you :) I think those who are quick to say it is silly or that I am gullible and credulous might lack in various life experiences ? Im not sure. If you choose not to believe that’s absolutely fine, but I would never be so rude as to make someone else feel silly, or small or stupid just because of a different way of thinking.

I keep dreaming my DD has another child - a baby girl called Catherine. It’s a very vivid dream but, unfortunately, has not come true

Marinamay44 · 02/07/2025 10:37

I have an uncle. He has three daughters so i have three female cousins. The oldest one is called May

I keep having dreams about them, but in the dream there is a fourth older sister. I talk to her and i have lots of chats with her in the dream.

I know "that is May's older sister' with absolute certainty.

I think that my aunt must have had a stillbirth or miscarriage, but I haven't asked her.
