got a letter from school today.....

saying that my 11 1/2 year old son has been put on teh gifted and talented register for arts....so...what does that mean then?
I mean, we always knew that he was talented at drawing and stuff and have always encouraged it anyway, especially as he is finding other things rather difficult, like reading/writing etc...but, tbh, I never even had an idea such register for the arts exists...
anyone know anyhting about this?

Gifted = exceptional across the board
Talented = exceptional in a particular area.

The letter said that he will spend some time, in a smaller group, with a local artist...so, I know he will enjoy that.

He has always been praised for his artwork, and of course, we always felt he was good (but always also thought that of course we are bias, lol)...it's nice for him to get recognistion, I suppose.

MIL will be pleased, she always tells me that that boy (bless her, she can never remmebr his name...due to alzheimer/dementia issues) will make something of himself, as he is such an artist...

That's wonderful! Well done to your ds. It's great to hear that an 'arty' talent is being recognised and nurtured. How fantastic to have the chance to work with an artist too.

The very phrase G&T usually makes me want to [vomit emoticon], but as art seems to be his "thing" I shall stand up and applaud.

I suppose it helps that his secondary school is actually a arts-specialist college...!

Yeah I clicked on this thinking I was going to vomit, but you are so modest about your son's talents! He really sounds like he's at the beginning of a great life! The World doesn't need more lawyers and accountants, it needs more artists!!!

well, he is even more modist...lol...when he got home from school , I told him about the letter and he was just shrugging saying...oh am I, lol...bless him!

Can I put in an early commission please....at a redued mn rate? Just so I already have a piece of his art before he makes it big and I cant afford it anymore? .

The G&T scheme is does include Art, Sports etc. One of my DD's friends is very arty and on it for Art. Another is on it for sports as she excels as an all rounder which is great.

Just wonder why it is not vomit inducing for Art and Sports but it is for erm, lowers voice, Brains?

We got a letter home aswell, for my dd. It is apparantley for talented young sports people within schools, amongst other things it is to hopefully reduce conflict between education and sport. She has to attend two workshops at school, don't quite know what happens there though!!!
I think it is nice that they notice these children and also that they recognise the difficulties of holding it all together, the school/after school activity 'thing'!

i think this is good example of when this scheme actually works

your child is going to meet local artists and has the chance to learn about art as a career/learn new skills etc - that is great!

abouteve...I think, sometimes , not always, when a thread in g&t is posted it comes across as a bit braggish...!
Although, of course one could say I am also bragging about my ds's achievement....tbh, I am just really pleased he has a special talent, especially as he finds it so hard otherwise (academically).
