Moving from abroad.. how does UK test for G+T ds will be in London...

Where I am from everyone takes a standardised test at age 6 - how do they do this in UK. G+T runs in our family (me, my sister, both parents, uncles...) and my ds shows signs of being bright (not sure G+T) but would like to get him tested. TIA

The school will do a baseline assessment.

How does a baseline assessment work? Is it a checklist, does it vary by school or same checklist nationally?

There is a standard (national) test here during the summer (final) term of Y2, which will automatically highlight any academically gifted children. Your child will go into Y2 if not yet 7 - ie 7 before 1 Sept - if turned 6 since Sept 07 then he will go into Y1 here, and school will informally assess and group your child at that point. Some schools are more proactive than others with regards to G&T at this age - all schools are supposed to have a G&T register but provision seems to be mixed, from talking to friends and reading on here! If it is important to you I would ask the questions when you view schools. When and where are you moving?
