I am just curious if someone can actually give me a definite answer whether to use or not pedal in Chopin's prelude in B minor which is currently on ARSM grade 6 list? My son is working towards it at the moment and being advised not to use it. A bit confused...
Thank you!

I'd recommend asking this query in the Autumn Term Musicians thread in Extra Curricular Activities. A lot of the musical mums hang out there, not in G&T.

I'd ask on the ABRSM website forums.

Much better to use it if he can do so correctly. That's what Mr Chopin would have expected!

My daughter did this piece for the same exam last summer and used pedal ... not sure it would work well without it. There are a lot of professional recordings of this piece available if you wanted more ideas, or try the music threads. Good luck with the exam!

Has he been told he will never be using pedal, or is it just that his teacher wants him to get the notes learnt first and then work on adding the pedal?
