What to ask and expect from school

Hi

My son has just started school (in Scotland). He is a self taught fluent reader, good mental arithmetic and a photographic memory.

I have said to teacher, emphasising that we are happy to take their advice on how the best approach things. Son doesn’t give much info from his school day but has said that teacher has spent 1:1 time with him doing various “tests” and different levels of reading books. I assume this was to assess him.

We have a parents night next week. What should we be asking, wanting, expecting? Don’t want to be one of those parents or for him to be excluded from his peers, but equally don’t want him bored and under-stimulated.

Thanks in advance!

Ime, willing teacher would tell you that they know the child's ability and what they are planning to do. If not, you may need to be that parent, for your child's sake.
