help- last straw

Son is like 3-4 years ahead in math.

From many years of past experience in private schools, the schools are unwilling to provide necessary enrichment. The standard line is that the kids are 'extended' in class.

This year was the last straw. Son was in the top set in 7 sets and the top child in the set and STILL THE TEACHER PROVIDES NO EXTENSION. Son even asked for challenging work and we got kickback.

Any advice. I'd ideally like to take my son out of math and provide math at home. Or have him take an online math class in the school library during math. Today we met his teacher for next year and she is entirely inflexible and I am already not happy.

Thanks for advice.

Can you chat to the head? G&t is a SEN too, they should be providing appropriate work for your child.

Change schools? Honestly. My DD, similar, has been challenged in state juniors, state secondary and private secondary. She asks rather than me - I've not really had to get involved, so perhaps that is a difference if you are asking rather than your son. At home she's able to find lots of maths challenges online.

Oh sorry you've said your son asks. If he is in a private school, change school.

What year is he? They may not be happy with a primary school student working by themselves in a library? Could the computer work be done in the same classroom? Can he do the school work then have set work from an online course ( the teacher will need to feel sure nothing gets overlooked if they do not cover all the same areas).
