We intended to move back to England few years ago mainly due to schooling, things got carried away and we are still in Germany. In the mean time DD has already completed her primary education and is attending a bilingual grammar school (French/German Gymnasium). Her German is better than a typical German child (only child in the school without any spelling or punctuation mistake). Her English level is very good but there are some areas where improvements are necessary, such as developing an English accent and writing in English.
The main reason I am writing here is due to fact that DD has recently turned 8 and her classmates are 10 to 12 year old. Even though she is in a secondary school in Germany, we would like her to attend a primary in the UK, due to her age and different syllabus offered in England. Is there anyone whose child interested in a language immersion in Germany? I read here many threads about not knowing what do to during school holidays; how about learning a language while playing together?
I know it sounds odd to send your child to some family abroad, but in the meanwhile there are so many agencies popping up like mushrooms and charging quite a lot of money, we thought of sharing our idea here to get in touch with genuinely interested families and treat the children with that money instead. After all, we don’t need to be completely strangers; there would be a short visit to check the compatibility and skype calls.
I am not exactly aware of term holidays in the UK. By interest, we would like to organise such an exchange during school holidays, not to miss out on the curriculum. Our last exchange child from France visited school with DD for two weeks and continued to spend her summer holiday with us for just over two weeks. DD also visited our guest child’s school in France while German schools were on holiday. She was delighted about going to school all day! Is there a primary school that is willing to accommodate a very good student for a month (maybe less) on a reciprocal basis? We will of course offer you the same in return.
DD is an avid reader (just to give you and idea, she finished reading Ink Heart within one week, and immediately after read the other two books of the series), loves math and technology, and plays piano. She takes pleasure in everything she does, indoors or outdoors. She is simply a happy child. She is not into shopping I am afraid. We are not health freaks but we cook very healthy and do not allow any soft drinks. We live in the town centre with easy connection to airports. DD’s room is really big (just over 35 square yards) and she is happy to share.
Just a personal note: Please consider your DD's willingness and interest first for an exchange. Thank you.
