DS got through the Cayley round of the UKMT intermediate challenge and I'm so proud.
Can't say much anything to other parents/friends so thought I could say it here. Others must have lots to say that makes them proud of their chidren, so lets just do it (it's not the real world!).

Congratulations to you and your DS.

JustRichmal · 27/02/2015 18:02

Good luck to him for March. That is excellent.

Dd, year 7, got silver, so we're pretty please as well Smile

jeandawson · 27/02/2015 18:29

Well done your DCs!

DS got gold, best in school and qualified for year 11 Olympiad - he's only in year 8, so is v pleased. Will be doing Cayley and is gutted not to be old enough for the other one!
He's pleased to have progressed from his year 7 results, when he got gold, best in school and then went on to do really well in the Kangaroo.
Is currently trying to twist his teacher's arm to let him do the senior challenge ....

Well done to JeanDawson's DS and JustRichmal's Dd. Smile.

JD sounds like he'll be ready for the senior challenge (if he's not already!).

I think the questions seem to real spark the interests of some children.

It's me, JD, I seem to have 2 user names for some reason!
I agree, they do offer something else to get their teeth into. I feel DS gets quite a broad maths 'diet' at school, and this is a good part of it. Not sure how he'll do in the Cayley, but definitely enjoys it and has much better concentration for maths than for anything else!

Have your DCs had the chance to do some of the team challenge competions?

Good luck to all those sitting Olympiad papers this week. ds1 is sitting the Maclaurin paper having done stonkingly well in the challenge (120/135) and got best in school.

Wow rosin that's brilliant. Congratulation to your DS 2 Smile.
I'm beginning to think DS may not be emotionally up to doing the paper on Thursday but it could be bad for him if he doesn't do it...

It's a great thing to take part in, good prep for competitive uni applications and the attitudes of perseverance, determination and resilience that are required to face these really tough exams. ds1 is yr11 now and he has benefited so much over the past 4 yrs taking part in UKMT challenges and Olympiads!

So many bright mathematician pupils become used to a NC setting in maths, where it is quite reasonable for them to aim for 100%. In UKMT challenges often 50% is a great result!

That is so true, I despair of the NC for math

Can I join in? DD1 has never done maths challenge before but won the school team competition yesterday and is representing her school in the regional event next week. This comes on top of some fantastic maths and science test results AND being picked for drama and art G&T events. The pride is bursting out of me and this is the only place I can think of to let it outGrin Grin Grin

yoyo1234 · 19/03/2015 13:05

That's Brill! GrinGrinGrinGrin Good luck to your DD1 and her team next week in the regional event! This is the right place to let some of that (well deserved) pride out Smile.
