Is this unusual?!

Hi. My DS is 22 months. He's always enjoyed music and is starting to sing songs, and the like, but today I discovered that he can tap out tunes (in this case with his toothbrush on the sink) in the exact rhythm of the songs he knows best.

I was a music teacher pre- baby but have no idea if this is unusual in a toddler.

Thanks

Most todddlers who can sing a song can clap along at same time, so tapping is similar to clapping.

What IS hard for littlies is to keep a steady beat going whilst singing (3/4 or 4/4 time etc), rather than beat every note.

I think dd3 can do this too - I have thought it for quite a while but have kept it to the back of my mind as I dodn't want to feel an idiot if it wasjust conincidence lol!

However if I am honest/objective tehn I would say that yes she can tap out a rythem qute well but no she couldn't do a beat as described below.

I would say that you being a music teacher he probably has sopme your natural talent plus you probably sing to him a lot and have music around so he's learned it as well.
Am I right?

Oh, he absolutely has been exposed to a lot of singing and music so I expect he has picked it up from that, it's just that I haven't clapped along to songs or anything like that with him and thought he was quite young to be doing it unprompted...

Oh well, will have to tear up the record contract!!!!!
