Story writing course for 8yr old

My dd1 is 8.5yrs and in the G&T group for reading and writing. I had a meeting with her teacher last week and he said she needed more than what they were able to offer and maybe I could enrol her on some sort of story writing course.

I've looked online but can't seem to find anything for her to go to, or an appropriate online course.

Does anyone on this board have any ideas what she could do?

OP - I think that it's truly crap if a school can't internally extend the skills of a, what, year3 child? Is she really working at high enough levels to be beyond the primary curriculum?

My Dd2 is in year 4 and getswriting extension work in class, for homework and goes to a reading group with other high achieving children. State school btw.

You're right, no she isn't working beyond the primary curriculum so they should be able to give her some extension activities.

Im due to have a chat with her teacher next week anyway so will raise this.

Have you looked at Catherine Mooney who does wordweavers ?

She does more challenging courses too.

Not sure advanced start wordweavers is what you are after though might be worth asking her abput creative writing specifically, I'm sure I read on an email list recently that she was doing that too.

I agree with iamnotinterested. It is an absurd suggestion from the teacher that he said "she needed more than they could offer"! She's 8.5 years and, as OP confirms, not working beyond the primary curriculum. I'm very fortunate in that my DD's school is happy and able (so far) to differentiate for able children. It was "politely" suggested to my parents in the late 1970s that I leave my primary school because they didn't know what to do with me. I have been so impressed that state schools nowadays are so geared up towards differentiated learning and aiming to help all children progress at the right rate for them.
