Hi, my post concerns my son who has just completed Year 3.
The school recently referred him to an Ed Psych on the basis that he is withdrawn in class and struggles with writing. (He finds spelling and punctuation etc a breeze, but produces very little work, finds it very difficult to generate/organise ideas and generally loathes writing). He is good at maths (not really outstanding) and has always been ahead of his peers in reading.
I have just had feedback from the Ed Psych - my son is very bright. In aspects of non-verbal reasoning he is functioning at a higher level than the average 18 year old (he is nearly 8). He said that my son is the most remarkable child he has ever worked with. He found that his memory is average for his age, as is his verbal reasoning ability - although he suspects that this result is skewed by my son's reluctance to answer questions verbally.
Outside the classroom my son is a shy, but happy boy with good friendships.
His high intelligence is not reflected in his achievement (mostly 2a's on his last report), so can he be classed as 'gifted'? What provision might be made for my son in the future? Any ideas??
