pre-schooler IQ testing - please review your educational psychologist here!

Hello, I'd like to start a thread for people to post reviews of educational psychologists they've used to assess pre-schoolers' IQ. We're looking for someone to assess our three-year-old son's IQ and have received mixed reports of Joan Freeman and Peter Congdon, so we're looking for alternatives... Any suggestions would be fantastic!

P.S. Was hoping we could steer clear of discussions of pros and cons of testing, important as they are, as they seem to have a habit of taking over threads like these!

We used an Ed Psych in Reading who was excellent. I know of a few that wont take kids before the age of 5 though but that's a whole different thread.

This is a wind up right?

lisad123 · 20/06/2012 22:42

If its in G&T I don't think it's a wind up

But I'm itching to ask. Why do you want to test? If he's clearly a genius, then do you need to test to work that out? And what do you plan to do with the information anyway? I'm asking this genuinely.

Great questions, good points etc etc. But all that's on other threads. This one's about ed psychs! Thank you isleofwightmum and usernametaken for your suggestions - anyone else with recommendations, would love to hear them!

Hi there - Dont waste your money on trying to do this now. go here - www.eric.ed.gov/ERICWebPortal/contentdelivery/servlet/ERICServlet?accno=ED453950
Read this and then decide if you want to do it....

If your son is anything like my 3 year old- you can see the obvious signs of genius - he will be reading basic words, counting beyond 20, knowing all shapes (hexagon vs octagon; and 3D shapes pyramid, cube, sphere), and colours and how to mix them up to make others;easily identify odd one out and similar pictures; play with toys beyond their intended use - and generally is a very bright kid, but doesn't socialize well - as he is an only kid.
That is why I sent him to nursery/pre school - to socialize before big school.

TRUTH - you cant truly test a child's IQ intellect until they are 5-6...when the child reaches the age of 'reasoning' - unless they have a really really strong case for it; as in without being taught they play the violin, and want to read War and Peace....etc etc OR they have some severe already diagnosed condition like Mongolism.(sorry just couldnt think of the PC term of the era)

Its just the way kids are. We have be patient and wait a while for them to develop/ripen a little longer.

I look and my son and say - 'There is still a green apple - he hasnt turned yet - but soon he will ripen'.
I would suggest to you to put your hand back in your wallet - and wait a couple years and then splurge enormously...if you still believe its a valid issue.
You could however - go directly to mensa - at www.mensa.org.uk/ and ask them for advice on your kid....if you dont ask - you wont get!
best of luck and sorry to depart from your original request
