IXL maths website - any good?

Is anybody using this website to practice maths with their child?

DS1 (almost 9) has just 'officially' been declared 'a more able' student and I am still coming to grips with the fact that he really does have 'additional learning needs'.

DS2 (almost 8) is more averagely academically minded Grin and could do with the practice.

I'd like to know if this site is worth the £8 monthly subscription fee. Any experiences (or other suggestions?) welcome.

TIA.

you can try out one or 2 free activities a day to see if you like it. there are lots of other sites around too.

Thanks, blackeyedsusan, we have played a bit on it today before I realised you are limited to 20 sums/day.

Are there any free websites? How do I find them?

It's not bad - we used to use it then switched to mathswhizz because it uses animation whereas ixl just uses static pictures, so mathswhizz got the kiddy vote for being more engaging.

Oh thanks, adoptmama, I'll have a look at that.

try the useful websites thread, i may have posted some there. there are often threads on the primary education board, which is where aI get all the ideas from.

My kids love MathsWhizz. They are both extremely good at Maths, about 2-3 years ahead of their age academically (DS 6, Y2, Dd 4, R) before we started using Whizz, and I find it keeps up with them and challenges them well, it also makes them think and SLOW DOWN which is good! Much better than Mathletics as it also teaches not just tests, and is not Yeargroup dependent like Education City.
