TEACHERS - Level 6

Need some advice.

Some very kind people helped me a couple of months ago with advice regarding resources for DC who school want to enter for Level 6 in 'failing' school where most effort is going into achieving floor standard (ie lots of level 4s) for the first time in several years.

As said on other threads (apologies for attempts to hijack) we have never found time to do the work outside of school, so have made next to no progress. However, DC was asked by school to sit last years optional Level 6 paper in maths and did well (36/50). This was a genuine surprise to me and I wondered if this paper was on the easy side? Or are lots of children going to get level 6 this year? I am interested as I consider DC to be bright, but not exceptionally so, but am wondering if there is more to it? Dc was able to 'work out' how to approach much of the paper with absolutely no teaching at that level - most of last couple of weeks have been spent going over grid multiplication for eg, not algebra and geometry!

Please feel free to tell me to chill out and go away, but equally, if you have some useful input I would be very grateful!

I wouldn't worry about it too much because as soon as your DC goes to secondary school then they will hopefully get put into a top maths set and then be able to really take off.

Yes, that's what I'm looking forward to, thanks!

Just really interested in teachers experiences of that particular paper - but perhaps there wasn't much take up?
