Should she have an IEP?

My DD (9) has been on the G&T list since Year 1 and the school describe her as "exceptionally able" across a wide range of subjects, although it is literacy that she particularly excels in (currently level 6a for reading, 5 for writing). She is happy in school and has friends. Class work rarely troubles her and she comes top with minimal effort. The school runs occasional additional sessions in particular subjects for more able children, typically once a term. Also, she has on occasion been given additional work by the head of the G&T programme. But it is all pretty haphazard and there has never been mention of an IEP. I keep seeing reference to these and wonder if there is any benefit to them and should she have one? I've no desire to push or "hothouse" her, not least as she does that to herself anyway! But I don't want to let her down by being too relaxed either!

Have a look at the NAGC

They are an excellent organisation and very helpful.
